Going from 87 to 93 octane

I haven't used 87 for over a decade.
Logging every tank you can see improvements to MPG and more miles per tank.
91 didn't seem to drop either number much when I ran full tank of that recently. Station didn't have 93 option.

Pretty much every vehicle on road now will adapt timing to whatever fuel you feed it. No need to worry about mixing fuel. Keep filling 93 eventually any dilution from 87 will not be an issue.

I had about a quarter tank of E85 and filled up with 93. Pretty much right away the ECM adjusted for the 93. I could tell by looking at miles to empty which went up compared to when i fill up with E85.

Yes, but my truck has only had once, what I assume was 87 - the dealer fill up. I've always run 93 in my vehicles, partially because all have been tuned, and FL is hot and I'll take any extra insurance I can to not grenade a motor to save a few bucks.

With a tune, an astounding 'FUCK YEAH!'. It's a completely different truck.

Ive run Premium in all of my cars for every tank for years. I am not a scientist so I cant give any real reason. I have my kids fill their cars up with premium also. I will always do this.

2011 GMC Yukon Denali XL 6.2 405 hp - Ran regular exclusively for 195,000 miles. Filled it up with 93 and was shocked. It has a bit of factory cam and the upper end 2500 rpm +, really liked it.

2023 F150 5.0 - Ran regular a few miles, then changed to premium. Same thing. I was shocked. The transmission really keeps that cam in its happy range. The 5.0 is one amazing motor.

2023 GMC Yukon Denali XL 6.2 420hp same result as 2011.

All of it really comes through on two lane roads. I don't run 93 (ethyl in the old days) on the interstates or around town in any of the cars above. They tune themselves for octane.

I must run premium in my 2018 Z06, 1974 Cutlass 455. and 1961 Apache 10 400. It gets expensive.

Oops, I forgot. You can put a K&N air filter on it and pick up another 50 hp and 100ft lbs of torque. That is super secret.

Now let me ask a dumber question, can you really feel a noticeable gain just from 87 octane to 93 without a tune?

Yes....but best results are with a tune.
