The real way to tell a difference is find out of the part #'s for the shocks and springs are different between FX4 and non FX4.

FWIW coming from the Toyota/Chevy world, I think this truck is already ahead in ride quality.

After having the FX4 package on my 2019 Lariat, I purposely looked for a truck without it.
The skid plates are garbage, and the shocks sucked.
I put Fox 2.0 on all 4 corners with a 2" level and it handled so much better.

I now have a 23 Platinum 4x4.
I added hill decent (new switch, jumper wire, and some Forscan magic) and rick crawl mode (more Forscan magic). Tremor front skid plate ordered, still deciding on the rest.
I'm still on the fence about new shocks and a level. The stock ride is pretty decent as it is.
Now I have a smooth ride and some additional off-road capabilities. ;)

I thought "rick crawl" mode was a typo, but I see your name is Rick!

I bought the FX4 package because I felt it road better on pavement than the 4X4. I drove them back to back and myself and my daughter were in agreement the FX4 rode better. Doesn't hurt for resale either.

OK, interesting subject. Now, if I were to install new shocks all around on my '23 Lariat, what would be the best recommendation with price and performance considerations? Adjustable vs fixed? Any impact on the warranty? Thanks in advance for the recommendations....Cheers all and Merry Christmas

I have 2024 XLT , 302a, FX4, BAP. I agree that the skid plates are skinny and the struts and shocks are weak. I put the Bilsteins on the rear and that got real of the hopping rear end. Overall, very happy with the truck so far :)

Fun to read everyone's comments. Ford continues to make changes in the F150's suspensions, thus experiences with earlier truck years and trim are likely not applicable to a 2024 or 2025 MY purchase. Nothing beats test driving the year and trim level you want to make your decision. 2024 PowerBoost Lariats I drove with standard suspensions were floaters. Even my wife complained about it before we got out of the parking lot during a test drive. There is even a thread from an owner showing how his F150 rocks around when hitting a dip while turning into his street. The FX4 package on my 2024 PowerBoost Lariat was a must for me and has provided a compliant stable drive with good ride quality. My son has the exact same F150 but a 2023 and his suspension is much stiffer. He will likely need the shock replacement others have recommended in this thread.

Bottom line, you need to test drive the vehicle(s) and make your own determination.

I went with Bilstein 5100’s based on experience with my MY22 Ranger.

3Stage had the best price.

My 2024 5.0 FX4 Lariat has the "monotube" shocks up front as part of the FX4 package. While driving at speed and cresting a highway bridge, the nose of the truck will bob up/down for 1.5 cycles. Something my previous Lariats and XLT's did not do. If anything, the ride is softer, not firmer.

I ordered my truck with FX4 and I will be promptly replacing the shocks with Eibach leveling shocks all the way around. Because some men just want to watch the world burn. ?

The FX4 rear shocks are Ford's OEM "off road" shocks and I would guess they r a different part number but these OEM shocks are not very good. That is why it is so widely recommended to upgrade to Bilsteins. I put the Bilstein 5100s on the back and noticed a significant upgrade vs. the OEM FX4 shocks.
