So maybe 360 camera “isn’t” required for copilot Active, but I guarantee you won’t find a copilot Active truck without the 360 cameras.
Just a packaging deal. Probably won’t Find a truck with massaging seats and no 360 camera.

I had a 2021 Platinum Powerboost without Bluecruise but with Lane Keeping and Adaptive Cruise. For 51 weeks

I've had my 2022 KingRanch with Bluecruise for a month.

OK, I admit, the first time I saw the Hands-free transformation on the instrument panel, I was delighted. (except where the heck did my tachometer just go?)

But now after a few 200 mile stints on the interstate, as far as the anti-fatigue aspect of it goes, I don't see any difference. In fact the Bluecruise nanny is more irritating because I AM looking out the windshield when she barks at me. At least the LK-AC nanny is predictable and less angry at me. Lol

Don't get me wrong, I ORDERED the 2022 exactly like I wanted after spending 6 months with the Platinum I found in inventory. And so yes, I wanted Bluecruise. And I would have been disappointed if I didn't get it, because I didn't know exactly what to expect. But now? Unless you are someone who really is going to drive with your hands in your lap, it's pretty much the same experience as Adaptive Cruise Lane Keeping. At least it is in my experience.

Having said all that, it must be the infrared cameras and module that is in supply constraint? That's the only thing component wise I can think is different between the two features.

Right, so if the package “requires” it even if it doesn’t really require it, what happens?

I'm thinking it might have something to do with the Ota updates. Sirius and connected nav removed due to some kind of connected services issue, and I know blue cruise has some pretty serious update requirements to function properly. And they get axed around the same time..

Any Lariat orders get hit with the same news?

I can't imagine the number of Tremor orders with Co-Pilot Active is significant enough to address any commodity issues. I think it's more Ford taking a broad brushed approach in numerically deleting optional Assist/Active packages for 501A and below.

Pretty sure you had to have 402a Tremor or 502a Lariat or higher trim to get Active.

Ok maybe I need some clarification. Is the Copilot active 2.0 being deleted from all trim levels? IE higher levels such as Platinum and Limited?

My dealer said "some" F150s. If it's not standard on your trim (i.e. a 701) I'd be pretty concerned if you weren't on the chopping block right now you will be soon. I'm also hearing rumors that bluecruise will not be available in 2023 at all.

Ahhh..I ordered Platinum 701a..so not yet...but be prepared. Then hearing all this...makes you wander if you do have/get it...then how good will the support be going forward.

When I heard they were coming with it in 2022...I thought ....if its a lil glitchy...it is a thing of the future and they will keep inproving it with updates....now if only a select few have it...how much effort will Ford put out keeping those customers up to date.

There's no such thing as a "select few" when it comes to the F150.
There will be better than 1,000,000 Gen14 F150's in a couple of months when production of the 2022 model year ends.

This part confuses me, makes it sound like the change already happened on Fords end, so if it wasn't removed does it not fall into that category? Also frustrating that it's 100A-501A, where the 402A is numerically lower than the 501A, but in reality is on par with a 502A.
  • Dealers should communicate with retail and fleet customers regarding Connected Built-In Navigation changes required to their orders. Following this communication, dealers should remove Option Code(s) 50N, 43B, and/or 43C (Connected Built-In Navigation, Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0, and/or Ford Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0) from F-150 retail & fleet unscheduled 100A-501A orders (excluding Gov’t) by May 26th, 2022. Orders that are not updated by May 26th, 2022, regardless of status (scheduled and unscheduled) will be amended by Ford to remove these options on May 27th, 2022. Dealers will be able to start making the required amendments on Tuesday May 24th.

Chip specifically told me I could keep the Assist. Weird that it's called out here as being removed. Who freaking knows, the Tremor is in a weird spot I guess.

I never said that other auto companies don’t have long lead times.

I was referring to the discrepancy between the auto industry and PC hardware industry. Just one example. The same fabs are making the chips for both. There are no real “shortages” on the PC hardware side of things anymore. Not really anyway. The auto industry is using the continued “shortage” to justify higher prices across the board all while pushing a totally different sales model that pushes ordering to spec vs. negotiating and buying something off of a lot.
Not all chips are the same. Some types are more constrained than others. At our work, we make heavy use of GPUs and specialized network and storage controllers. Some of those are really hard to get right now.

I'm guessing that BlueCruise needs chips of a different type than say a wiper controller. :)

Again, no one here really cares about what your job (no name desk jockey) is or who your “supplier” is. Or what your super l33t company buys and in what dollar amount. The point is that there is a narrative mismatch when it comes to the auto industry.
I agree.. There is a mismatch in the narrative..

However, there is an explanation for that.. The chips used in the computer industry are very focused on size and power consumption.. So they continue to invest in making smaller and more efficient chips.. The chip manufacturers are investing in increasing capacity for those chips..

Whereas, in automobiles, size of the chips and power consumption are not as important.. So typically they use older generation chips which are not as small.. And the chip manufacturers are not investing in expanding capacity for the older generation fabs..

So the supply interruptions over the last couple of years in the older fabs have to be worked through before the chip shortage in the automotive, appliance and other industries abates..

It will happen.. But not at the same rate as the computer industry..

Hence the discrepancy that you are referring to.. Hope this sheds some light on the reasons for the shortage in the automotive industry..

Makes sense, and I figured that was probably the reason to an extent. You’d think that people in charge would have a fire lit under their asses in order or leverage change to ease the issue, but I guess not. The computer industry has done much better in terms of managing the constraints.
