I had an ‘18 as well but never had the frozen door issue. My brother’s ‘18, however, did. Same deal as you, he had to steer with one hand and hold the door closed with the other. I suspect right turns were a *****.The cold door issue is on my current truck, 2018 XLT.
But this issue has been around since at least 2011 and they still haven’t come up with something to fix it so I wouldn’t be surprised if some 2021 models in colder places like myself have that same issue pop up.
My dealer says my 2021 truck should arrive in 2-3 months.
Damn I feel bad for your bro. This door thing is such nightmare especially since you don’t know when it will happen.I had an ‘18 as well but never had the frozen door issue. He did get it fixed. In fact, he made the dealer fix all four doors even though only one door was problematic. Apparently they attach some kind of a water shield over the latch mechanism on the door. Keeps water from getting in there and then freezing up.Damn I feel bad for your bro. This door thing is such nightmare especially since you don’t know when it will happen.
Sometimes it’s -12 outside and there’s no problem but another day could be only -5, like today, and you’re doing the one handed thing.
Did he ever get it fixed? If so, what did he do?
I wouldHere's a shifter tidbit....If u shut the truck off in drive it will put it in park for u!
So last night I went to move my shifter and it broke. As in physically broke in half, only thing holding it together was a small ribbon cable. I tried to shut it off and hoped it would shift it into Park. No such luck. Yes it is “supposed” to shift into park when you do this but all that happened was it stayed in Drive and flashed on/off. It’s all plastic and I’m hoping this isn’t a design flaw that shows up in colder weather. I’m in WI and it gets a lot colder than this.I originally ordered the 2021 XLT Sport, but the same day I paid my deposit I saw a YouTuber doing a first week owner review mentioning that his fold-down shifter was acting up.
He said that it wouldn’t go all the way up but only happened a couple of times when he first got the truck.
I immediately emailed my dealer and had him switch my order to an XL STX.
I’ve had my fair share of those kind of issues with my 2018 XLT to know that this shifter thing is gonna be a real problem.
One of my biggest issues has been with the cold weather door thing but at least with that you could still drive somewhere. But if your shifter decides to not come up one day you’re not going anywhere.
Just wondering if anyone else has had any surprises with their fold-down shifter.
I never would’ve expected something this extreme. I really hope they just keep that truck for research and give you a brand new one instead of wasting your time while they try to figure how to get it in park.I would

Called Ford Roadside Assistance and they got a flatbed dispatched in less than a half hour which was amazing BUT I went to the dealer this morning only to find a technician crawling on the ground scratching his head why it won’t come out of drive…
I don’t have any other info as of right now but talked to the service manager 2 hours after I was there and they said they still haven’t gotten it out of drive!
Stay tuned!

2nd time in less then year, shifter issues can't drive the truck, so back to the dealer 19K odometer 2021 F150 Lariat. Here's a shifter tidbit....If u shut the truck off in drive it will put it in park for u!
What happened? Do you think the fold-down feature may have attributed to it?2nd time in less then year, shifter issues can't drive the truck, so back to the dealer 19K odometer 2021 F150 Lariat.
The tow truck driver has to drag the truck into the roll back. I set the E brake to help.
This isn't going well with me
Well I pulled the trigger on a new F150 XLT 3.5L 302A FX4 Chrome etc, etc, but decided to go with a column shifter. and the cloth 40 console 40 seats. Not going to worry about the fold down. What happened? Do you think the fold-down feature may have attributed to it?
