Even the SuperMongoose-Plus, which one would assume is an upgrade over the regular Mongoose since it can do more than just a single manufacturer?

It's crazy to think that I need to go down to spending ~$600 on the regular Mongoose over the $1000 I have in the Super version. No doubting you - just having a hard time wrapping my head around it.
Would have been the assumption of many of us but then again, I still don't understand what is a better MacBook Ultra or Max? This one goes to 11, .

This comes as a surprise to me, too. Opus/IVS makes both the Mongoose Plus and the Supergoose and the company has a pretty good rep with Fords. But, looking at the Amazon reviews, it looks like you’re not the first one to discover that the Supergoose doesn’t work as well. I already have a Mongoose and I need a cable for a Chevy. You may have saved me from an expensive mistake in ”upgrading” to a multi-format Supergoose.

Might be worth reaching out to Opus to at least let them know that the Supergoose has shortcomings the Mongoose does not.

I thought about that. I figured I would wait till the regular Mongoose arrives to make sure it works with that one, then let Opus support know about the failure with the SuperGoose.

If it is apart of the mongoose company you may ask them if there is an updated driver or firmware for it.

guys have used the various mongoose cables form Honda and Toyota and had failures.

it is something with the way the can fd is handed along with the data submission can get corrupted.

that is why it’s always safest to go the mongoose we know.

I'm certain it will work with the Mongoose-Plus. I was one of the guinea pigs (along with @Bob_Mac) in February 2022 to test it and it has worked perfectly with the F150 for nearly three years now. It not only updated every module we threw at it without issue, it corrected as-built data corruptions created by the VCX Nano. It's very robust and a steal for the price given what it can do. Its only shortcomings are that it's much slower than Ford's VCM3 (its speed is on par with the out of production VCM II) and it doesn't work with IDS.

That's why I am so surprised about the Supergoose. It sits right between the Mongoose and the CarDAQ 3 in Opus's line up and the other two seem to work fine (or at least the CarDAQ used to and was on Ford's approved list). I'd call Opus and give them some feedback. Maybe they have a firmware update they can give you or maybe you can nudge them (if there are other similar reports) into working on one.

It looks like it was the USB cable that came with the SuperGoose. I have a couple of USB testers and it exhibited weird behavior on both of them, and since it's a bog standard mini USB cable (for $1k they couldn't spring for USB-C?), I replaced it, rolled the dice that it really was the source of the problem, and was able to unbrick the IPMA module following rugedraw's instructions (thanks again for that).

Finishing up a few additional updates now, but looks like I'm out of the woods.

I did send an email to Opus' tech support team, but haven't heard back yet.

Glad to hear. Put my faith in back into possibility getting the SuperGoose. Do you know how long the programming took? Curious if it is any faster than the Mongoose.

It was right around 2.5 hours to run the PMI process on the IPMA module.

Glad it got fixed. If you don’t mind send me your vin so I can look at the data and see if it submitted it correctly.

I have it and I'll send it to you. I'm sure he won't mind.

Data looks good. So seems like that cable is an option as well

Can the cable on the Mongoose Plus be changed to a USB C instead of the one it came with?

I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to use a USB-B to C cable. I would just make sure to get it from a high quality brand and not just whatever is cheapest on Amazon. I would also try it first with some small update or procedure before jumping right into a big one like an IPMA. I don’t recall anyone specifically mentioning they have done this, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I would also be sure to stay away from at least most of the USB A to C adapters out there. Many of them are junk in my experience.
