Why take the chance on a “buy back”? Even if the dealer throws in a Ford ESP with a zero deductible, do you want to risk wasting time having to take the truck in for service frequently? I’d walk away from any “buy back” - just as the original owner did.

little under 50k
Interesting. I did a quick scan for some used 2021 KR powerboosts on the internet, and that price seems a little high? Also seems to be driven by mileage more than anything else. The higher the miles the lower the cost, anywhere from mid $40s down to mid $30s. Most have 50k + miles.

I see your post with the miles, I'm sure thats driving the price, just not sure I want to take a chance on the buy back issue. I'd probably settle for $45K OTD, with an included extended warranty. And I'd still be nervous. More than likely the dealer would say no anyway, too many potential buyers out there that don't do any research. With the buy back and the work they have done, they are probably already taking a bath on it.

I'm not always about the lowball offer either, but I want to try and feel good about the deal and hope that I am mitigating enough risk. But thats a personal thing, it might be worth more than that to you, and you might be able to afford more risk than me.

According to Autotrader, there are exactly four 2021 King Ranchs with under 30k miles that are priced under $50k. None of these 4 are less than $49,400. Thus, it appears you are getting a deal, but not an unheard one.

I would consider it, but you need to get a Ford ESP. They can throw it into the deal or you need to negotiate enough money off the price to get it yourself. If it is beyond the 3y/36k mile warranty, you will likely need an inspection. Thankfully, your dealer can likely do that. If you do get the ESP yourself, then get it through Granger or Flood. Both have great websites with transparent pricing. The Ford ESP Premiumcare basically replaces the bumper to bumper factory warranty. Thus, if the worst happens, you aren't screwed financially.

I bought a gold certified CPO 2021 King Ranch last year for $48k. I did talk them down from $51,9xx though. It had been on their lot for a couple months and they wanted my trade......so I had a bit of leverage in my favor.

The only way I would even consider a buy back like that is if the price was 20-30% less than a comparable vehicle AND it was eligible for a FORD esp.

Another consideration worth noting is the ‘21’s have known issues with software updates. Ask the dealer to verify that all available software updates are installed and functioning properly. What is the Sync number?

There are many people more knowledgeable on the 21 software issues than I am and a quick search on the forum will clue you up pretty quickly.

Not without a long healthy ESP
AND because it's a buyback, no less than 10% under market rate.

Also, to be clear there are some buyback PBs out there to be had a deal on that were bought back before they fixed the software on them. Some dealers were replacing the HV wiring but the issue was with the BECM inside the battery. I wouldn't fret a wiring or batt replacement.

I keep an eye on PB issues like a hawk

Only 2 issues we're seeing is the BECM (covered under hybrid component warranty) and the even larger issue is the aux trans pump going out as it's always running when the ICE is off. The pump was designed for the ASS trucks and I suspect their MTBF gets hit earlier in the PB being able to sit 15-20m before starting the ICE. They need to reprogram them to only turn on the aux pump if the e-motor is hot or it's about to start. If you listen to a PB in hybrid mode parked, you can hear the aux pump running continuously and it doesn't need to.

Don't all sunroofs eventually leak?

I mean, I'd run from a truck with a sunroof even if it didn't leak, but people want what they want.
Not all, no. Ford seems to be competing with Audi on leaky sunroofs though.

I shopped for two weeks to find the right King Ranch without the pano roof. Very happy with that decision every time I get into my buddy’s Lariat that has been to the dealer SIX times for leaks or squeaks. He also always comments about how much he loves the leather in my pickup……..I just reverse flex on him and say that he should have let me shop with him and I could have saved him 25-30k from his over MSRP lariat. ?
