As I start looking at pricing and start understanding that dealers in NJ won't budge and therefore looking at either Granger, Ourismann or Chapman I want to get some honest insight on something. I have never owned a Ford before. I have always been a Honda customer. The largest vehicle I have owned is a minivan. So gas mileage was important. So I have narrowed down to f150 3.5l powerboost hybrid XLT supercrew. Would I be making a mistake buying this if the technology is new? How can I protect myself if I buy this and what happens when hybrid battery is exhausted? Do you also know any other dealers near NJ with a fair price? Also I have only test driven the 2.7l ecoboost. I don't have the patience in me to go again to a dealership to test drive a 3.5l. Can I assume the ride quality will be almost same?

Personally I would not get a PB. I have had 2 3.5 eco’s. Love them, but they do the job I need pulling a 25 foot trailer. If mpg is high on your list what are you going to use the truck for? I bought my trucks based on what I was going to use it for not mpg. I would research this forum on PB. Read what people are saying.

I would also skip the PB. The 3.5 in general is not great on fuel, as well.

Your best bet would be the 2.7 IMO.

OR if you had Honda in the past and you don't require a full size, the Hybrid Maverick has great fuel mileage.

Lots of great opinions and knowledge on this forum! I have a 22 PB XLT SCREW and I love it despite some mechanical issues that came up (including the well known coolant leak and axle bolt recalls). Nearly everyone will tell you picking PB should be based on extended wants or needs. If you're only looking for a solid truck with better mileage then perhaps the 2.7 would be the right choice. But if you're looking for extra functionality along with better mileage then the PB is the way to go IMO. I use the truck as the daily driver/family hauler and I get better mileage on my PB then I ever did with my 2015 Flex limited. Plus the 7.2 PP onboard has been getting all kinds of use even beyond boondocking. Like you and most others I was wary of the longevity of the hybrid components so also got an extended warrenty to cover that. Overall the PB was the right choice for me.

I have had three 3.5 Ecoboost F150's and I just bought a new 23 Powerboost XLT a couple weeks ago. I currently have the new 23 Powerboost and my 2019 3.5 Ecoboost F150 with 47k miles that I also bought new. I havent had any problems with any of my Ecoboost trucks. If you are after mpg's, then you'd want to stick with the 2.7 Ecoboost or a Powerboost. I've read that the 2.7 Ecoboost gets good mpg's and will tow when you want it to. If you tow a lot, then I would probably not consider the 2.7. My new truck is a 23 Powerboost, supercrew 4x4 and is getting 23mpg's. I went with the new Powerboost because I got it for $51k out the door plus a lifetime warranty for another $2k.

I wouldn’t buy anything other than a PowerBoost. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned.

Folks thanks for all the responses. In mileage comparisons the powerboost seems to be better than the 2.7l ecoboost. Would I be going wrong buying it then since one of them members in the discussion above has said never to buy a powerboost. I don't tow. I always wanted a truck and will also use as a second family car in addition to my daily driving needs around town.

It’s not new technology. We’ve had 5 Hybrid vehicles to date, including our current 2021 King Ranch Powerboost. All have been great vehicles.
The idea of that Hybrid battery failing is overblown. That was the worry when we bought our first Prius in 2008. We put 160K miles on that vehicle and similar mileage on our other hybrids without issue. Hybrid technology is pretty refined. Ford has been making Hybrids for a long time. The best of both worlds, more power and better mileage.
We tow our Ranger boat with our PB, the electric motor makes that heavy boat jump out of the ramp!

I was replacing a 2011 F350 . Amazing truck , treated me well. But that power sucked up the gas. I wanted a hybrid , for economy and other features . A standout is the power on board. Helpful with my small travel trailer. The other biggie is a hybrids ability to sit with the AC on without constantly running the engine. Its like 5 minutes battery 1 minute ICE engine . I do long summer road trips and nap at truck stops. Sleeping with the AC without stressing the engine is an attractive feature. The runner up was the upcoming Tacoma hybrid. The 150 has a larger more comfortable cabin , an close to double cargo and towing capacity. And the same 23 mpg rating. Hybrid battery failure is not an issue , they last a long time. Also the Powerboost is a rocket if you want it to be. A little over 5 seconds to 60mph. I'm a relaxed driver , so the rocket part isn't a big thing for me , but 23mpg on a big truck is. Good luck with your decision process.

If I buy extended warranty out of state, will it be honored instate? And if existing warranty covers 3 years am I just getting an additional 5?

I don't think it would be a surprise that I am thrilled with the Powerboost and have been for the 3 years that I have been driving them.

Having said that, Fuel mileage is the LEAST of the reasons I love them.

All of the modern F150's are in the same ballpark, in my opinion, on fuel mileage. There is a very specific driving condition that the Powerboost has the advantage in fuel economy, so in that ideal use case, then it would matter.

Yes. The Ford Protect ESP is attached to the VIN. All Ford dealers will see it.

If you get a 5yr warranty it gives you an additional 2 years since it starts the day the vehicle was purchased and the 3 yr factory warranty takes precedence.
