I'm curious what went wrong on his Tundra? Not because I wanna bash it but I have a family member with a Lexus with a 3.4T V6 (related to Tundra engine) and is having some issues with it that the dealer seems to be unable to repair. We are likely going to have to start looking into this ourselves, unfortunately.

And I say this as someone that has owned Toyotas that have run for decades, with family members running Toyotas & Lexuses for hundreds of thousands of miles. They're great cars, usually....
Big issue right now is it spinning bearings and self destructing. Toyota claims its due to a manufacturing defect and left over sediment after the process. Many critics thing its a engine design fault since the issue is plaguing engines built from different locations. you can youtube "Tundra Recalls" and tons of media are covering it now and they'll provide a more in-depth review of the situation.

I wouldn't wish something like that on any manufacturer and their customers.
We are way better off as consumers when the competition drives improvement. Failures like this aren't benefitting anyone, in my opinion.

Agreed. Everyone wants to win, but not like this.

Ok but I don’t want to hear another word about legendary Toyota reliability. That horse spun a bearing and died.

I don't mind hearing about what is good about Toyota, or Ram, or Chevy. They are all good at whatever they are good at.

I just get weary of how much a Ford is a piece of crap and I should have bought a.......... when the issue is no more than a sheared axle bolt or a faulty wiper motor.

But even saying that, I'm not talking about a rant post. Those get a pass from me because they are just a necessary vent. Everyone needs to be able to let off some steam.

But man it gets old when it's obvious the posts are just mysery looking for company.

But sorry hybrid tundra owners who's engines were built on the same line. We'll warranty yours if it blows up under warranty.
That is very interesting.

"Toyota notes that this remedy applies only (at least so far) to the non-hybrid versions of its V35A twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engines; the hybrid variants (available in the Tundra) can still provide motive power in the event of an engine failure, thanks to their electric motors. "

It pays to be conservative in choosing a new vehicle. The Ford 2.7L engine is noted for shutting down without warning when towing and so I avoided it with my new truck purchase. The Ram engine have their etorque unit and when it fails it is a $2,000 repair and few engines are available from Ram without this device.

Toyota is using a brand new engine in its trucks and the first year of any new engine is risky with any manufacturer. That includes the mechanicals and the electronics and the emissions controls and the software programming.

The Ford BMS of my 2022 truck has necessitated my replacing the H6 battery with a H7 one and buying a battery maintainer and plugging my truck in at night to insure it will start in the morning. In more than 55 years of owning cars and trucks this Ford is the first that I need to keep attached to a battery maintainer.

I view recall performance as very important. Only a fool would drive in heavy rain when the wipers do not work or drive around with an empty windshiedl fluid container. My 2011 Silverado had the defective Takata airbag injectors and I turned off the passenger one as I figured it was safer to not have this airbag activate in the event of a collision. The only real fix was to sell the truck as is in 2018.

You called hundreds of thousands of us fools.
I don't mind of course. I've been called everything.

But some of those hundreds of thousands of "fools" might have their own terminology to describe someone who is afraid to drive a truck with perfectly functioning wipers because it might rain.

I'm just saying

If it wasn't for the possible engine problems in the current generation tundra I'd probably have one sitting in the driveway.

New forced induction engine platforms have to earn their stripes. I have a feeling ram and their new TT i6 running up to 2.5 bar is going to likely produce some spectacular failures.

I have owned 5 Toyota 4WD trucks and driven each more than 170,000 miles on and off the road and never had a mechanical failure of any kind with any of them. When I sold each of these trucks everything worked perfectly and there was no play in the transmission gearbox or in the steering. I cannot say that about other vehcles from GM, Dodge, Chevy, or Ford that I have owned.

There is a club of sorts for owners of Toyotas with more than 300,000 miles on the original engine and this started well before the switch to unleaded gas that prolonged engine life.

There is a reason why in Africa and South America the Toyota Landcruisers are the most popular vehicles and even ones with more than 1 million miles on the odometer sell quickly on the used market.
