Do your truck still have the OEM Ford battery it was built with?
Probably? I was actually thinking about changing it. My ASS no longer works either and I was wondering if that could be why.

You think that could cause it? In the short term, I could throw it on the charger.

If the battery is the OEM one, that could be why it is stuck in the restart required loop. If the battery is below spec, it won't allow the update to install. You can try charging the battery to 100% and reset the BMS, but if it continues to say restart required, the update is not taking and it is most likely not passing the battery spec test required for an update to install via USB. Putting it on the charger won't help if this is the case. You would need a new battery. I have seen this happen several times before.

Okay. I’m all for that. I’ll grab one from Costco. 2 questions though.

1) Would you recommend getting an H8 battery? I’ve seen that recommended
2) possibly a silly question, but how would one reset the BMS?

Thanks again for all your help!

If you don't have a powerboost, H8 is a good upgrade. With a powerboost it won't fit.

The BMS can be reset in FDRS, under the toolbox tab.

I upgraded mine to an H7, but you can go H8 if you want if your truck is not a PB. It takes longer to charge, but it takes longer to discharge, too. With the H7, you can reuse the heat shield from your OEM battery, but it most likely won't fit over the H8.

Edit: Confirmed that the restart required loop is a bad battery.

I attempted my IPMA today a couple hours in I received this message. I tried "retry" 2 times before clicking no then it tried a power steering update that also failed. The IPMA update appears to still be in the update list, should I try run again?

My first instinct was to charge the battery overnight and reset the BMS.

I’ll let it charge overnight. I had done updates yesterday and earlier today without issue. I tried to rerun the update a few times and it stops almost right away with the same issue.

You can do the ACM but it will not go away and the BCM you need a higher login.

@billybob

I ran the pscm communication error tool on my truck before installing the pscm last weekend and it corrected the grayed out issue and allowed the pscm software to install. The bcm will be a no go,, you can't do it.

The power steering did show up yesterday and I ran the upgrade fine. I’m not sure why it is grey this morning, would that prevent the IPMA?
