Questions for those of you who do FDRS updates, as I'm planning to start updating my '23 truck for the first time, this weekend. Since this sounds like it will take hours, I plan to do it all remotely, with the laptop in the garage, the truck outside (it's too long to fit in the garage and I'd prefer to keep the garage door shut) and I'll remote into the laptop so I can be in my office, working on other things as well. I'll run an extension to power the Clore power supply as well.

I've read enough posts that I have some questions:

1- Since my truck will sit outside & I don't want to spend hours in the truck or garage, can I leave the laptop in the garage and use a long USB extension going to the truck, for the Mongoose? Any issues using extensions?

2- If there's a prompt to do something like turn on/off the engine, or insert/remove a thumb drive in the USB, are you also prompted in FDRS or do I need to periodically check the vehicle?

3- Will any FORScan changes I've done previously (months ago) need to be re-done or are they saved on Ford's servers after some time? I plan to save everything in FORScan before I start with FDRS.

Hopefully things go smooth and I'll be able to play with BC 1.4 when I'm done.

The concept is sound.
But it doesn't play out that way in practice.

Or it hasn't for me.
Too many necessary key cycles to get away with the remote model.

Admittedly there are SOME updates that take so long that you can get away with walking away.

1. I would not want to use any extension for USB primarily to avoid any issues that might happen. I keep my laptop connected directly with the mangoose and then remotely access that laptop to keep an eye on the progress.

2. Updates will need you to physically push buttons on the truck. The smaller updates like DDM PDM don’t take too long so you can do them quickly. The longer updates like APIM, IPMA etc do take a while to download and once downloaded you would need to be physically present to push buttons, connect USB etc. You can be inside while the software is being downloaded.

3. The configuration will need to be uploaded to the Ford servers so after updates the same configuration is applied. There is an option to read configuration which takes your configuration from APIM, TCU, IPC and GWM and uploads to the mothership. I would still backup all changes made on FORScan so it is easier to restore once all updates are done just in case the as built configuration is applied.

Good luck, and be patient and calm if something errors out. You have plenty of gurus here to assist if you face any issues. :)

Question about 2 day FDRS License.
If I purchased the 2 day at 5AM on 1/16 and it says it expires at 1/18.
Does expire at the end of the day like 1/18 11:59 or is it based on 48 hrs exactly?
2nd Question: what will happen if you are in the middle of an update and it expires?

11:59pm on the 18th.

Nothing.....it will keep going past midnight until you log out from what other people have reported.

Need a little help...
I'm looking at the ForS can sheet and want to do the Unreal Sync screen mod.
It says I need to reset the APIM.
Can't find where to do that at in Forscan.
Any help would be appreciated.

Go into FORScan make your changes and click save. Then you will go to the wrench icon I believe and click the APIM and reboot. I believe it will turn your screen off in truck and something else but it will tell you when it’s done with the reboot.

That is 2020 Sync version. Did the truck see the USB stick? Is your FDRS still active? If so, post a screen shot of any outstanding updates.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to a mongoose anymore. My truck does recognize the usb stick and the other day it took the update but I haven’t noticed any changes besides the 12” screen blacking out every now and again

What Sync version is shown?

Usually what happens, is after an update completes, the completed update is reported to the Ford servers. If there is another update for that module, it is released in FDRS for the truck. Updates have to be installed in a certain order.

Can you get the Mongoose back if needed?
