I would have tried it with Forscan before sending it back, or tried to find someone with FDRS to test it with. I think someone else here used a Honda Mongoose without an issue. They supposedly aren't interchangable, but are for some things.
Refund?? Best way to go is go into your order and click wrong item received, you’ll get the option to get an exchange. They ship you the new one right away at no cost and provide a shipping label to return the ones you received.
As @christophers said, FDRS is not compatible with a 2015 Mustang. But, I believe FJDS is. https://www.fordtechservice.dealerconnection.com/VDIRS/wds/vcm_retail_renewal_Latest.asp. Your license is good for both FDRS and FJDS and FJDS supports J2534 devices. So, the Mongoose should work. Unfortunately, I have never used FJDS so I have no clue how easy or user friendly it is. You might be on your own unless someone else on here can talk you through it.

Thank you, when I hooked it up to the Mustang, everything ran as normal and didn’t show any error while connecting. I updated all the modules and everything went as smooth as it did with my truck. When I got done with her car, the windows weren’t working after updating the door modules. If I remember correctly I ran the repair process or revert to previous software through FDRS (I don’t recall the exact name). But I appreciate all your help.
I’ve done some of the other updates but not a PCM one yet but I plan on doing that one this weekend to see if it help the shifting with my Powerboost. Is there anything special with this one - I thought I saw someone mention it does some tests afterwords.
No there is nothing special but you have to drive it after. The truck will not go into electric UNTIL it has met the conditions. After any update to the PCM you have to drive the truck and it has to relearn everythihgn.
In all fairness to this particular situation: I had an offline convo with the OP of the post to which that post was related to. While the tech did make a mistake during the update process, it was not blatant negligence like I had initially assumed. The dealership is still working with him to try and get his truck right. My experience trying to get my truck fixed by dealerships was so bad, that it has left me biased. As someone in the business who is a current dealer employee and a former Ford dealer employee, I am going to refrain from giving my opinion on dealerships going forward when I provide updates. That's all I am going to say about that.
