It's not the only option.
But it's the least expensive.

So what modules can is not update? How bad is it really? Is the mongoose really the only option?
For the sake of your sanity, yea it’s the only option. Listen to @Jesse-Infotainment because if you use the NANO, there’s a decent chance you’ll screw something up, and Jesse is the only one that can fix it. I think everyone on here considers him the resident expert, having literal world-class knowledge of how the modules (and everything else) in these trucks work.

Using the NANO is a metaphorical version of Russian roulette for the modules in your truck.

Why is FDRS so slow to write to USB? Taking over an hour to transfer 5GB updates. The USB is rated at 11.8MB/s write, but with FDRS it caps out at 1.8MB/s (not sustainable). I've used the USB from this very computer and it was much faster.

FDRS definitely throttles writing USB sticks.
It's time to listen to a Playlist, sip a beverage, and catch up on the forum while it does it's thing.

Last APIM (I think) based on public releases. Still downloading then another 1-2hr transfer to USB and 30~ min update. Almost dinner time.

Well, done for now, ran out of time. After the last large APIM that brought my Sync to 23*** another GWM popped up. What else is left past my current status? 1FTFW1E58MFC14482

I wanted the full screen CarPlay and got it, along with some other updates that were stacked. I might update again if something good comes out, otherwise I can't justify the $50.

Sounds like the equivalent to 3.5.3 which gives you full-screen capability. There should of also been a TCU update that would take you to 3.5.4, and the GWM is most likely 4.2.1.

I would agree that it is not worth spending the $50 on the rest of the updates. You don't get any new or useful features out of the other updates. Now that you got the troublesome older updates out of the way, you should get the rest via OTA as intended.

If you send it, can I just put it on USB and update? Or do I have to do FDRS again? I have no use for the TCU I don't think being overseas (I know TCU controls more than the 5G, but that's the main thing I want). If it's no trouble and I can easily update without FDRS, please send. Otherwise I can wait.

OK, so this means I'm finally all caught up now, right? I should be at PU 4.3.2?

(Disregard the DTC for PCM, its a U0645 - Lost Communication With Active Air Dam Module. Snow drift broke it last winter then I just removed it entirely.)

Is there anything else I should be doing while I still have time on my license?

I'm very happy to see that you were finally able to get your truck fully updated. It's an amazing day we live in that the members of the forum here were able provide you the information and guidance to do this, But ultimately through your own determination you made it happen, Great work! Hopefully you and that F-150 will be back rolling on the U.S. Interstates soon.
With Memorial day coming up, Let's take a moment to remember our fallen heroes, and I'd like thank you personally for your service to our great Country.
Thank you, Sir!
