In all fairness, dealerships can't just take your truck in, put it in a bay, and then spend 2 days sitting in it installing every update FDRS offers.
Can you imagine Ford getting that invoice for thousands upon thousands of 2021 F150's?

They ain't going to pay the dealerships for that.

OTA is the intended delivery mechanism. It's Ford's fault that any of us have to use FDRS in our driveway or at the dealership.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not ranting. Instead I'm thrilled that I can just take care of things myself!
I agree with you. I'd have less sand in my private parts if FRDS was free instead of shelling out $$ for it every time. I have no issues applying update myself and doing the work. It good to get to know the truck a bit and since I deal with software daily, its just more fun for me. I enjoy abuse however.

Or at least had a consumer pricing option where you could pay a reasonable amount per year for a 1 or 2 VIN license instead of paying shop prices for unlimited VINs.

I'm sorry, yes they can. Turning away a customer because they don't think it's relevant is wrong. Putting Ford's problem on the customer is wrong. I know the game and what they pay for and don't. But there is no excuse for them not to try. They need to fight for the customer because not everyone can do it themselves nor should they have to. I've said that from the start regardless I decided to do it myself.

Stop giving Ford the benefit of the doubt. They effed up. It's not the customer's fault.
These types of issues will never get fixed if they are not pressed. Let the dealer and Ford fight it out.

Can someone please check my VIN, 1FTFW1E89MFA78177 , and confirm the dealer, in fact, completed the PCM, APIM and TCU updates?

I have had PowerUp OTA 2.1.1 fail 4 times. Carried the truck to dealer yesterday. He replaced the battery and said he updated the PCM, APIM and TCU. He could not get the GWM to update.

Many thanks!
Ken
Here's what needs to be updated as of now:
Ford F-150 ECU module programming guide using FDRS 1FTFW1E89MFA78177-7-June-22

And here's the work that was done today:

I don't see anything but a PCM update being done in this list.

100% agree
Agree, but letting the consumer perform these updates can open up a new can of worms. What happens if a user bricks his module, making the car undriveable? Who pay's for the tow? The user will blame the software and Ford will blame the user. I'm sure these issues can be worked through somehow, but sanctioning the user to do these updates as they are now can lead to more problems. This isn't a phone they can bring into the store to re-load if its bricked.

Yeah, this is also fair. I think I can see both sides of it. In a perfect world if the updates work all the time (when the user is updating) then life is good... when it goes pear shaped, that's where it gets dicey.

I try to be flexible I guess, but Ford still should provide a better paths/options at the end of the day.

Hello all,

may truck is at the dealer getting some updates and the SYNC screen went out after they updated the APIM and TCU software.

after a call into Ford engineering, they did some resets and updates and are having trouble communicating with the TCU.

Ford is suppose to get back to them tomorrow about the TCU communication issue.

can someone please run my vin on FDRS and see what they’ve done and what other software updates are needed?

I greatly appreciate it.

Anyone else just an an OTA for the TRM recall? I had a notification of an OTA and it turned out to be specifically for the TRM. Haven't gotten any of the other OTAs that people on here have been getting...but I got this one!!!!????

Is there a phone number of anyone at ford that might give us some help. I been fighting the OTA updates since November. Ford service has no Ideal what to do. I'd trade this truck if I could find a new one.

PMI on the GWM on the 26th
Module Repair on the APIM on the 29th (to get it unstuck)
On the 30th they tried an APIM update and were warned the battery voltage was too low and went ahead anyway, and it failed.
On the 1st of June three TCU update attempts where each time they got a low 12v battery SOC warning and went ahead anyway and they failed each time ("What we have here...is failure...to COMMUNICATE!) They then went on to do the Module Repair procedure twice and then attempted two APIM updates, again ignoring the battery state of charge warnings with predictable results.
Then on the 7th a APIM module configuration was done. And that's when PTS was consulted on what to do about the blank display.

I don't think they are using a power supply when trying to do updates. Just a guess. I want to say so many things right now that would get me into trouble. But I won't.

Here's what you've got showing as pending at the minute:

From what I've seen, consumers are able to follow instructions and have a better track record at successfully updating their vehicles software than 90% of the dealership techs. Maybe that's because the consumers are more "invested" in the process and desired outcome and to the dealer techs "it's just another day on the job, there's always tomorrow...".

Thought as much. I hate when half-ass work is performed.
