Just FYI on that Furrion Chill Cube

18K BTU (not really true because RV BTU ratings are so phony) and since it's variable speed, no soft start necessary and the most I have seen it draw was around 8-9 amps when it had the burden to cool off a hot interior. Once it cools it off, it'll just coast at 1-3 amps. At night, or in the shade, it just sips relatively speaking.

I will be replacing all 4 RVs with the same unit, or one equivalent.

You see my 15K BTU pulling 12A when the compressor runs, and I imagine during the summer that will be most of the time.

I can employ an all of the above approach with the generator, solar, and alternator/DC-DC converter working together, and it’s still hard to overcome a 6kW/hr drawdown overnight.

The AC unit change out has to lead the way. Until then, I’m going to see what my current setup does well, and where it falls short. Perhaps I’ll choose where we go and stay accordingly 🤷🏻‍♂️😁

I would NOT change out a brand new unit for the Chill Cube unless the difference in KWH was a tipping point between them. If you don't have enough battery to make it through the night regardless, then there's no real gain.

My strategy is to get through the quiet hours if I'm in a campsite without power and no generators allowed at night.

Honestly, it's rare to be in that situation.
I usually either have hookups or I'm on a beach where the Powerboost can't be heard over the coastal breeze anyway.

I'm really excited for you and the family to get out there and have fun. This geek-out stuff is what we do when we are stuck in the driveway. 🤣

Where you're at, it probably would be a good chunk of the time during the day but less so at night and less so, once the space is to temp.

Its still a hurdle, not minimizing that. But you measured worse case and extrapolated out. That isn't reality.

It is achievable. The couple in the second Dynamax vid have dogs to protect too and they're off grid, most of the time.

When they do the detailed vid of their electrical upgrade, you'll have a better idea of what it takes. He'll do a good breakdown.

And yes, it does matter how, when and where and how long. If you're gonna stay in FL / east coast humidity, it'll be a much tougher climb, than out west, at elevation, where the humidity is less and the nights cool off.

We’ll go as far as time will allow that is the plan. Mostly eastern seaboard and the mountains this side of the Mississippi until I retire and then we can stay gone longer. Alaska is out there calling my name like a siren 😍

My storage compartment came locks are junk and I think they hand out the CH751 key like candy at Halloween. Any suggestions on a decent replacement would be appreciated 🙏

IF you have Global Link Locks, you can re-key them.

Door and slam latch locks can be rekeyed. Cam locks get replaced but you can order them with the key you want. I did mine so one key, does them all.

My Brother in Law had Bauer locks. They'll sell you whole new locks, with the key of your choice but don't do rekeying. Or didn't as of a yr. or so ago.

I have a set of Global Link keys that don’t open anything. I have a Bauer key that works the door. The generic keys that open all the cam locks, and the Ford keys with Fob. I have slam latch envy already lol

I won't deny it, they're nice. I have 2 but the o/s kitchen has the cams. You can retrofit them but meh. I just replaced it, so that it was keyed to the others.

You can tweak the cams, to fit more snuggly, it that is what is bothering you.

A lot of people like the touch pad locks.

I didn't bother, because the batteries run out and the pad panels wear out but none the less, some people think they're must haves. At least on the entry door.

If you go that way, wait to do anything with you cargo locks and maybe you can get them keyed to that.

The key struggles to get in the lock, it’s just janky, and because the key is generic, it provides as much security as a zip tie.
