Picked up my F150 3.5 eb after oil change and dealer used Ford’s 5w30 blend. I had brought Mobil 1 5W30 full syn which I have been using,, but the tech messed up and used their blend oil. Should I be concerned? Or should I just wait for 4-5,000 miles and then use the oil Mobil 1?

Same viscosity so I would just do an early oil change (~3-4k miles) and then use the mobile one. Should be no harm done there.

I shouldn't even post this but here we go.

The dealer didnt use the "wrong" oil - they used the oil that Ford put in the truck at the factory. The same oil that meets all Ford Specifications. In fact they used the oil that Ford designed to work well in the very engine that is in your truck.

I get everyone has their own favorite brand. I actually worked at Valvoline for a bit and you wouldn't believe the amount of money spent by marketing on trying to figure out how people who DIY pick an oil brand. What they found isn't shocking - by in large there are not a lot of differentiators all major oil brands meet the same specs - most people use what their dad used.

When I change the oil myself I use Castrol. Ironically I use Castrol b/c back in the day when I owed a WRX there were stories of people spinning bearings that were in large tied to Mobil 1 usage. Totally anecdotal internet posts, didnt meant there was anything wrong /w Mobil 1, but again people pick oil brands based on feelings and not facts.

Every now and then when I feel lazy or when i get a coupon I let Ford change the oil. And you know what, I dont insist they use what I use. Motorcraft is a perfectly fine oil, it meets or exceeds Ford WSS-M2C946-B1. Based on tests from blackstone labs it performs well under the tough conditions of a direct injected forced induction engine. Heck people at BobIsTheOilGuy like it and that bunch is impossible to please. Run it at a sane OCI and you should be fine.

I am asking the dealer to perform a service, they have a standard for how they do that. Asking them to deviate from that process only adds confusion for not a lot if any value.

If you really want to stick /w Mobil 1 then find an independent shop to change the oil in your truck. Mobil 1 actually has a spot on their website to find a service center that uses their products: https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/where-to-buy/find-oil-change-location

Ironically the closet place to me is my local WalMart...I think I would trust Motorcraft oil over the lube techs at WalMart even if they use Mobil 1...but that is another thread for another day.

A good shop would have drained and refilled once the mistake was noticed.

You'll be fine, just change at 3k or so.

I have used Motorcraft oil in my last 3 F150's without any problems what so ever. My 06, 5.4 had 245,000 Km and my 2011, 3.5 EB had 264,000 Km. and my 21 at 57,000 Km. There was not and is not any noticeable amount of oil consumption between oil changes at 8,000 Km on any of the F150's

They did not use the wrong oil, they didn't listen to you but they did use the correct oil.

Run your regular interval, it sounds like you've already got your M1 oil for next change.

They left the oil and filter on the back floor board. I will drive 4-5,000 miles and then use their Mobil 1. Walmart sells the 12 quart “boxed” oil and also the motorcraft filter, so it works out good having the dealer do the oil changes, check fluids / filters and rotate the tires.

As long as the oil used meets/exceeds the Resource Conserving, SN PLUS and/or International Lubricant Specification Advisory Committee (ILSAC) GF-6A then it doesn't really matter much about the brand provided the correct weight is used. As long that it's changed at regular intervals based on driving conditions that is. What many don't know is a most private label brands including Amazon Basics synthetic for example are actually produced by Warren Distribution and do meet/exceed these standards so may be able to save a little on oil changes.

I get free oil change for life as long as I go to selling dealer. They use the Ford motorcraft blend. Glad to hear it’s a decent oil.

I’d run it and change early and call it a day.

Interesting little tear down video comparing oils…. not comparing syn blend but clear winner with full synthetic as far as sludge and wear goes

Truthfully I would be much more concerned about the Motorcraft Oil Filter than anything else you have mentioned in this thread.

There have been a ton of quality control issues with the Motrocraft filters as of late. Issues like the glue that holds components together coming apart and being thrown into the engine. Not great.

Going to the trouble of taking your own Mobil 1 oil and then using a FL-500s is a weird combination imho.
