My insurance company is sending someone out tomorrow to look at it but they did say that they have had a few dozen window issues like mine in the area and that it is usually due to a small imperfection/ding/scratch in the window that was preexisting prior to the extreme temp changes.

The mirror is still a bit of a mystery. It is still 100% intact and if I fold the pieces out, I am not missing any of it and there is no debris from a branch or anything like that inside.
It could be that someone is going around damaging windows if there's a rash of them in the area. Without some thorough investigation it'll be hard to tell.

Regardless of the cause, I hope the fix is quick and painless and you're back on the road again soon

ice?

on youtube search for 'sparkplug window'
this happened when I was driving about 60 mph through a rural wooded area with conservation area on both sides of the road in -10 to -20 temps. There were no humans anywhere around me other than possibly a passing car in the other direction. Im not ruling anything out so I suppose someone could have put a spark plug on a boomerang where it was on the passenger side rear.

Gotta love sub zero New England nights!

Window exploded when I was driving last night due to the cold. Thought I was being shot at! Probably not much I could have done to prevent that one and I’ve seen numerous pictures from others in the area with the same thing happening to them last night.

The mirror damage must have happened when the auto fold opened it. I didn’t notice this until I was inspecting my window I guess I’ll be disabling autofold during the winter going forward.

Ouch... That's very unfortunate. Wonder if you could replace the windshield glass with something more cold resistant.
Also maybe a weather-resistant car cover could help? Like this one: https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai...hUKEwiXzbi5jYz9AhVzmWoFHbZ1Aj4Qww8Isw8&adurl=

Luckily, I have a garage that I will be using in the future on the 1-2 nights a year we have like this. It’s usually just a pain to clean up the garage to fit my truck in, then impossible to move around with the truck and my wife’s Pilot both in there.

Just to resurrect and provide a new scenario resulting in window fracture:
My wife and I had been driving for several hours coming into Bozeman via Big Sky.
Ambient temp ~85-90, inside temp ~75 (comfy)
Stop to take a potty break on side of road.
Get back in, close the doors and seconds later a loud whoomp and glass everywhere in back seat. Scared the dog into the front seat.
I thought a rock had blown up and in but the window blew OUT as well. To my knowledge, no prior chips. No rocks found in cab
See attached.
Serious WTF moment as I'd never even heard of spontaneous fractures before.

Every time I'm looking at my rear glass and see the deformation around the sliding window in the reflections I get an eerie uneasy feeling about longevity. The glass comes out of the plant perfectly smooth but with the rear sliding window parts added on, the deformations in reflections isn't reassuring.
