So I’m not sure if this is an issue or not, but its something I’ve noticed a handful of times recently. When I’m stopped on a hill nose down, either in traffic or at a light, when I let off the brakes without pressing the gas and start moving I get a distinct clunk feeling/sound. Best description is the same feeling of a harsh shift clunk, but a little more exaggerated. Reading about it, it is probably driveshaft slop or even a harsh 1-3 shift. What’s odd is if I press the gas immediately after letting off the brakes, there is no clunk. My old F150, a 2016 2.7, did the exact same thing for over 50k miles til I traded it in with no issues, so I’m not overly concerned. On my old truck and this one, I can replicate the clunk nearly every time under the same circumstances facing downhill from a stop. Im not going to mention it to the dealer unless it gets significantly worse, some tech digging around would cause more harm than good, but it is weird the same thing is happening in a truck 6 years newer. I thought I would post here to see if anyone else has experienced this on the 21-22 trucks, couldn’t find anything similar to this mentioned anywhere.

FWIW, my transmission is pretty smooth for the most part. Not many harsh shifts, and no considerable driveshaft slop aside from what was mentioned. The 6r80 in my 2016 was noticeably harsher shifting, and had a good amount of driveshaft slop.

Good morning! I would like to take a closer look into the concerns you have with your F-150's braking/transmission. To get started can you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer?

I have the same issue, 2023 5.0. Has done it since day one and now have close to 30,000 on it. She hasn't been the smoothest transmission, but this issue has bugged me the most. Took into dealer and said they couldn't replicate which is aggravating considering it does it for me every time when on a downhill and just let off the breaks from a dead stop. Definitely interested if anyone has heard of a fix or what it is exactly.

I have 19000 on mine now, still does it but I'm not overly concerned about it. Don't want a tech messing around with it if nothing is wrong. Best guess is the rear end is under load when braking on a hill, and the clunk is it decompressing when letting off the brake. Giving it some gas immediately after letting off the brake prevents it from happening for me.

Makes sense. Getting on the throttle does prevent it for me too. Sometimes I am two footing it applying throttle right before I left off the brake lol. Thank you for the reply!

I think it’s related to the torque converter in some way. Not a problem but programming. I noted if you’re in manual 1, it wont “release” but if you click it back to drive you’ll feel the clunk on command (when going downhill)

Hi. - I have a '23 5.0 XLT - same issue - feels a lot worse when you have a trailer on. Just had mine in for service and got a "No Trouble Found" from the tech. I can replicate this when going down hill - take your foot off the brake - and at 5Km/hr consistently it hits.. still in 1st gear and not applying the gas. First time it did it with my RV on i thought i got rear ended as i was in traffic facing downhill on a 2% grade. I'm going back in on July 8th to talk with the service forman (he is on vacation).

Yeah I have definitely felt it more prominently when towing my boat. I've casually mentioned it a few times to the dealer and was told the same thing, no issue found. For what its worth, my 2016 did the exact same thing for the 59k miles I had it and never had an issue. I've learned to live with it I guess.

My truck does the same thing, plan on mentioning it to the dealer when I call tomorrow, that along with my now noticed leaking transmission. I have also had the occasionally very harsh shifts. Anyone ever get resolution on this, seems unacceptable, I experience this every day on my commute, and no other vehicle I have own has done this.

My '23 5.0 does this as well. Fortunately, it only happens on one downhill section on my commute home from work when there is a lot of traffic. I definitely though I got bumped the first time it occurred though.
