So you are on here complaining now because dealer denied fixing something that you did to the truck over a year ago?

Just get Forscan and take care of it yourself.
As I mentioned above, the camera calibration is not something you can do in forscan (as far as I am aware). I didn't take it in at the time because I knew the solution was a camera recalibration and I just was going to wait for the first oil change.

I will be more than happy to use forscan to do it, but this was not something i thought was possible because there use an external setup to do it.

Also as I mentioned, yes I came here to complain (it's what the internet is for, right?) but mainly because i had never heard anyone told by a dealership that they would not do this under warranty or as a courtesy.

Ok. I found out how you can do it in a parking lot and initiate it with Forscan. If the dealership won't do it. I'll do it myself.

Sorry for the complaining. Just wasn't a great way to start the day.

Hope you are able to sort it out yourself. Does give me pause though that these trucks may be too complicated for their own good. I hopefully will be picking up my truck soon, but if I have to replace or recalibrate a seat sensor every time I fart, I'm going to be mad. Taking off a tailgate and then having to recalibrating stuff just seems absurd.

No worries—we all have days like that! Glad that you found a way to fix it.

Ok, not sure why Frank got jumped about expecting an allowed function (removing tailgate temporarily) causing a malfunction on his truck.

History: I had the same problem when an after-manufacturing spray in was done. However, the dealer was having it done as part of my purchase (at the time factory spray in was causing your order to be delayed). So they had to fix it.

But this confused me, as again, you are allowed to removed your tailgate. The design makes it simple and Ford even includes the dust cover for the disconnected cable while the tailgate is off (it should have been in your glovebox).

So I followed the issue (on this forum). Turns out it really is supposed to work (okay, not break) that way. There was a bug in the s/w that if the tailgate was unplugged while system was hot (i.e. the 12V battery was NOT disconnected) then it saw the camera go away, and the bug was it didn't handle the sync up when reconnected. If the battery was disconnected the whole time, there was not a problem, as the system never knew.

Still since the OWNER Tailgate removal procedure as documented in the OWNER'S manual does not specify to pull the battery, this was still a bug, that it couldn't handle it. Otherwise you are losing a function (and a "safety" function at that) just for doing something you were allowed (and was designed) to do.

I actually thought, I read that later versions of the s/w fixed this issue.

So, regardless, in my opinion, yes the Dealer should have to fix it, and charge it to FORD warranty (and probably should update his s/w).

The example of asking Dealer to re-align because you bought new tires at NTB is a false equivalency. The example would be you got new tires and now (due to a Ford bug) your anti-lock brakes don't work without a dealer procedure. Should be covered.

Frank first off you committed the cardinal sin and told the dealer you had removed the tailgate. Second removing the tailgate is not the problem, there is a glitch that is caused by the over the air update recently.

Here is my story, about a month ago I had Linex sprayed and of course the installer removed my tailgate. About that time my reverse brake assist stopped working and after about two weeks I took it to the dealer. It ended up being a technical service bulletin for the IPMA software. The Linex guy removing the tailgate was just a coincidence. All of this ended up being covered under warranty and it works perfectly now.

Honestly w/ forscan, an item every truck owner should have due to even simple changes that improve the owners quality of life, well the process is easier to complete than driving to a dealer. I don't like other people touching my vehicles, at all. Rarely do they come back in the same condition they went there with. They love to half-ass too many things. Break clips, fail to fully seat panels / etc... They're paid by billable hours, not the job they do.

I recalibrated both this and my bluecruise camera last week. It took me a total of 15 minutes to do both.

Yes, and as soon as I said it I said "Crap!" in my head. I should have just kept my trap shut. LOL

Forum is here to complain.

Dealers all suck so I avoid them as often as possible. As mentioned by someone above they cut corners and do dumb things. I had blower motor replaced under warranty they left the beauty cover off under glovebox and lost screws. I was not pleased. They pulled parts off truck for sale on the lot because genius kid threw it away. ?

But why not?

I did an operation covered in the manual (removed the tailgate and put it back on) and now the reverse brake assist doesn't work. Everything I've found online says that the cameras have to be recalibrated, something only Ford or some specialized shops can do.

For an operation covered under a manual, I would not expect to have to pay to have the cameras recalibrated every single time I do it (at cost to me).
the problem arises, when tailgate is removed and vehicle is moved. it screws up said system
there is a way IIRC to let it re configure on its own or take to ford and have the procedure done
it happened to my truck as well during a bed liner spray that dealer did
they warrantied the reconfigure under the system not working and the 3/36 as its new truck
your dealer should simply do a warranty thing for rear camera not working correctly after USER removed tailgate as directed in OM and reinstalled as per OM
its the system faulting , vice the procedure IMO

but the key could be...hey ford my rear camera is not workign after i removed and then reinstalled the tailgate as outlined in OM...fix it please as a warranty issue

I am old enough to remember when a dealership (Ford, GM, Dodge....) wanted to have enough goodwill with their customers that they'd say "Sure Frank. Let me see your keys and I'll get Bob to take care of that for you. Shouldn't be but a few minutes"

Man are those days a bygone era. :(
