More likely your chain snapped and sent the ECM into a frenzy, and at that point the ECM could not control the cylinder deactivation system because those rockers aren’t being actuated by the camshaft with a broken chain. The solenoid is commanding an actuation that is not occurring as expected because the camshaft is not hitting the lobes. The solenoid is then blamed by the ECU as its job cannot be done. Then the fault code likely went off. There is just no cause/effect between this CD and a broken chain that I can find referencing the systems interactions. These technicians don’t seem to understand the cause/effect analysis in why these codes were stored, they have it totally backwards.
That makes sense, they were very quiet about the whole thing. I talked to the guy doing the work he just had a puzzled look on his face, wouldn't elaborate, or give me straight answer on anything I asked. They just wanted to slap it back together and move on to the next. Seems to be the norm these days.
