I’m interested in ford stow away bed extender.

The OEM 2021+ are around $800.

OEM 2015-2020 are around $350.

I seen on here and other sites that the 2015-2020 model will fit 2021 or newer. Just need remove taillights and add washer, nut on backside.

I also found several OEM knock-offs off Amazon around $160. I seen couple reviews people confirming fitment and same exact quality/look as OEM.

Should I just go with aftermarket one? Anyone on here have experience? Thanks

I went with knockoff from Amazon for my 2021. Install was quick and easy and haven’t had any issues with it.

So the aftermarket one looks identical to OEM besides having Ford and part number stamped into the plastic?
The aftermarket one looks and feels like the factory one that I bought in 2012. One slightly odd difference - the plastic handles for the retention pins are shaped more cross-like than rectangular on my aftermarket one. It seems that they mix-and-match parts from this similar style of extender.

You are correct: M10-1.5.

There is a whole separate conversation around the galvanic compatibility of hardware. The good news is that you won't be drilling or otherwise disturbing the coatings that Ford puts on the aluminum panels.

Some people seem to be using an isolator layer (nylon washer) between the steel hardware and aluminum panel. This source suggests an aluminum washer, though I admit that it seems to just move the steel-aluminum mating surface slightly. Either is likely better than random big box hardware.

I use an aftermarket extender and the tailgate latches on the 21+ are smaller than the 2015-2020 trucks. I kept the one from my 2019 when I bought my 23.
Mine has the straps that click into the tailgate latches to keep the extender secured to the tailgate.
I had to swap out the clips on the strap for smaller ones.
Still cheaper than buying a new extender.

Just installed one from eBay today.
New Chinese clone $130 shipped with Amazon shipping on an Amazon truck. They sell them for higher on Amazon. ?

2021 so took longer to butcher the Ford plastic bed liner than it did to install. Bolts thread right in and cut out the plastic tailgate hole for the rod. Done. ?

Had one of these in my 2013 truck and used it all the time. Before I found out they are compatible with the 21+ trucks, I installed bed lights. These would absolutely block the lights and the switch, so its a no go for me. Now if Ford would stock disabling them with OTA updates....
