I tried searching this topic but didn't see anything. 21 Limited Powerboost, I wish there was a way to adjust how much the auto dimming mirrors dim. When backing up, I can barely see behind me a night. I end up rolling the window down and sticking my head out! Anyone else having this issue? Any fixes?

The auto dimming is caused by the amount of light behind you. Are you backing towards a yard light or brite light of some sort.

Side note. I think it's BS the passenger mirror doesn't dim. End of rant.

I think, because the right hand mirror is wide angle, it doesn't need to dim. I don't find it not dimming an issue.

I have coach lights on my garage, so maybe that could do it, but I wouldn't call them "bright". Was just dreaming that there was some sort of way to turn that feature on and off or adjust the amount of dimming. Probably wishful thinking. Missing my little lever on the bottom of the rearview mirror!

Old school..... the dimming is not adjustable as far as I know. I believe the dimming comes from the coating on the mirror.

Edit...found this....

Rear view Mirror, autodimming
The auto-dimming rear view mirror offers greater safety when driving at night, as it stops you from being dazzled by traffic travelling behind. It consists of a mirror element and an electronic system that detects light from in front and behind by means of photo sensors. If the amount of light from behind is greater than that in front, the mirror is darkened. The surface of the mirror features a layer of electrolytes, similar to the LCD display of a mobile phone. The electrolytes consist of uniform crystals. When a voltage is applied, the crystals arrange themselves at a given angle, determining how much light is reflected. The strength of the voltage determines to what extent the mirror is darkened.

You have a limited, so i'm assuming you are equipped with bluecruise? If so, I find my mirrors dimming at all the wrong time because the mirror is seeing the ir illuminators for the eye cameras. Try unplugging the rearview mirror and see how you like that.

I run into this occasionally backing up too when there are coach lights it can see. I think if you just turn off the headlights the auto dimming shuts off too. Not super helpful if when moving forward, but in reverse the headlights aren’t helping much anyway. Most of the time I love the electrochromatic dimming, especially for the astonishing number of people that can’t seem to figure out their high beams.

The back up camera on these trucks is very good at night - any reason that won’t be sufficient?

I rarely use my mirrors to backup unless I select memory 3 which puts the mirrors down to see curbs. Otherwise, the 360 camera system works in all lighting conditions.

Only driver's side dims, and as others have pointed out it's based on light hitting the mirror. Window tint too dark or your reverse lights suck like mine

I didn't think about that with my KR and LED lights it lights up the neighbor's house across the street when I back out of the driveway.

Agreed. Part of it is habit for me to find the edge of the driveway in my LH mirror because of the direction I am turning, part of it is sometimes I am backing in a trailer, and sometimes the camera is dirty. If I could just (easily) shut off/turn on the Auto-Dim, everything would be dandy. My brain is in training to keep getting better at using the 360 cam and rear cam. Old dog. New tricks.

Wasn't aware of that. I'll have to give that a try!
