If you check out the Ih8mud forum, you will see plenty of trail use for the Defenders. They will do fine off road......as long as it is fairly dry.
My limited offroad will be on trails around a hunting property or to drive across a harvested field to recover a deer. Not taking this truck offroad like I did my Wrangler. I may have to make the trip back to DT and the switch... I'd have been thrilled with them if I even just got 1-2mpg back but its netted 0 to almost worse than the KO2s. Although the ride is much comfier being an SL

Also it appears DT doesn't carry the Michelins but TireRack does.

If you call your local DT they might be able to get tires that aren't listed on their website. The manager at my local store was able to do that on a couple occasions for me anyway.

I don't know what is taking Tire Rack and DT so long to merge their websites/business. I think DT bought TR out over two years ago.

Defender LTX Platinum shows on DT website. $404 apiece in your size.

Not in an SL/XL Load range. LR E makes for a jarring ride with a 20" wheel. I probably wont end up switching anyhow. I still need to drop the front about an inch to get some travel back from the Fox shocks. Maybe the mpg will bump up when I get a little more aerodynamic ?

Temps in NE Ohio should be warming soon, that will improve your MPG's more than most tire or aero changes.

The LTX Platinum only comes in an LT. If you want an SL/XL you would have to drop to an LTX MS2 which has a load index of 116. Not sure what the spec is for an F150

Yeah they will but I expected an immediate increase with lighter tires.

Correct. The LTX M/S2. 116 is plenty.

I bought the Nitto Terra Grappler G3s about a 1.5 weeks go and replaced my stock Hankook Dynapro AT2 on my F150 Powerboost. I went with 275/65r20 SL which is very similar to the stock 275/60r20. I was averaging about 20.5-21 mpg on highway on stocks. That number has fallen to about 15-16mpg. I was expecting a little drop in mpg but not a 5mpg drop. I even stuck to SL load instead of anything LT or E rated load to keep my mpg similar. The weight of the tire is 45 lbs versus Hankook of 41 lbs.

The tires are absolutely amazing in rain by the way but this has overall been a disappointment and I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Tires were bought from Discount Tire. Calculations are from what I see on my instrument cluster.

Also, I am having lots of vibration 70mph and up, dunno if thats contributing to it.
Did you adjust the tire size with FORScan? If you don't then the truck will think you're getting less miles, and show a lower MPG.

I have driven these all winter and am even more impressed with them. I made the changes in Forscan and am seeing better (+1-2 MPG) performance than I did last winter with stock-sized Falkens. I believe winter blend fuel is still being sold in ND and Montana as well. When I take I-90/94 between Idaho and North Dakota, the entirety of the trip's speed limit is 80 MPH. That is where I see my worst MPG numbers. But taking rural county and state highways in N Idaho I'm averaging 23+ MPGs w/winter blend fuels. I have a Bilstein level kit in the front set at 1.5" and removed the active air dam.

One major con to this tire that I've noticed however: rocks get stuck and STAY stuck in the tread. Normally, as I'm sure everyone is aware, rocks eventually get flung out at higher speeds. Not so with these suckers.

Only the pea sized or smaller gravel is what I’ve noticed my G3’s hanging onto.

I hear it fling out intermittently and when I get back onto paved surfaces, I will hear the telltale “click-click” of gravel stuck in the tread for a least several minutes, if I have my windows down.

I’m definitely glad that I have mud flaps with a conservative fitment. These tires would probably pepper the side of your pickup if you wanted to run the brodozer look.

I put on a set of LT275/70/18 on my truck when I had a level kit put on about 2500 miles ago.

So far, I have really liked them. Very quiet and smooth and rain traction has been great. I had Toyo AT3's that I got just over 75k on when I swapped for the Nitto. I had very few complaints with the AT3 but the rain traction wasn't the best. It wasn't bad, but these G3's are a lot better.

The only thing I don't like about the new Nitto G3's is they eject rocks really bad. The parking lot I launch by boat from is all gravel. And with the Toyo, I never had an issue with the rocks. They came out and there was no drama. But these G3's hold onto rocks and then eject them with force. I'll go 1/4 mile from the ramp and the hear a loud "tink" from a rock getting ejected into the underside of my truck. Kind of annoying but if that's the only complaint, I can live with it.

Looks great! How would you say the noise of the Nittos compares to the Toyos you had?

Interesting comments about the rock flinging. Mine don't seem to have that issue.

These tires have two distinct sidewall designs. Mine are mounted with the slanted (DOT out) side out and yours appear to have been mounted with the other sidewall design out. I wonder if that's got something to do with it?

I don't believe the sidewalls should make a difference but then again, you never know.

Mine have been on for over 3 months and I've been content with the road noise. I feel it's a little quieter than the stock ones. They've also been repaving the highways lately and going from the white concrete roads to the black asphalt. Once I hit those new sections, they're super quiet.

Being a symmetrical, non-directional tire, I doubt that would be the case. More than likely, the gravel size is larger in your area.

The tight tread blocks and stone ejectors on the G3's is why they fling certain size gravel, and the smaller stuff gets jammed into the enlarged openings on the sipes.

National forest service roads in my area don't have any gravel to get jammed in there, but some of our county roads are maintained with chat and that does seem to ping off the underside fairly often. I'm not upset by it since the on-road manners of these tires are solid.
