AC comes on at cold start and randomly when humid or raining. Is this normal?

When truck sits overnight, when started AC will come on and light in switch lights. Go to the store, stop and start truck, it does not come on. It did not do this originally, I think I triggered it by going into Auto Climate Control. I tried the push AC and Recirc together and then AC within 2 seconds, but does not fix it. Ideas?
Second question is that the AC will randomly come on while driving in humid or rainy weather. AC button does not light up and I cannot shut it off, it will just stop by itself. Is this functions as designed? I have a 2021 XLT 302a package. TIA.

Good afternoon. Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer? We'd like to take a closer look at your Truck's AC and confirm that everything is running as it should!

Similar issue to your second point... This morning I was driving to work with the AC off, temp set to low and fan on low, and all of a sudden the air got super cold (for sure the AC was on), but I also had no lights come on. It did this a week or 2 ago and I didn't think much of it, but am now a bit more concerned something is wrong. It was around 65° outside, so no need for AC, and it didn't seem that humid to me.

Hi there. This AC concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your F-150. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

Old thread but wanted to see if anyone has found a resolution to this.

I have a 25 Lariat 501a with the same issues. From what I gather from searching the forums, it’s normal for the AC to always turn on when starting the truck when it’s warmer outside. Mine does this no matter what the last setting was when I last turned the truck off and it’s above 70 out.

My concern is with the second issue being described where the AC turns on after driving for a while without the indicator light turning on. It’s frustrating to have it set to 70, AC off and it’s blowing cold.

This just happened to me after a 2 hour drive in the mid 60s and rain. I had to crank it up to 80 for the air to not be cold.

This is a Ford thing, I guess. I don't even have auto AC and my truck will turn the AC on if it's humid out. Really annoying since you do have to either turn the whole system off or keep playing with the temp control. Pure stupidity.

My 2025 XLT turns the A/C automatically without the indicator on. I just noticed it this afternoon. It has been very humid where I’m at for the past couple of months and today is no exception. It may have done this before but I just wasn’t paying attention.

Wow I had this happen to me last week and thought I was going crazy. I was just running the vent and all of a sudden the air got cold but the AC light was off. Only did it for a few minute.

My 24 does the same exact thing as many others have described. I don't mind the A/C auto turn on when I first start the engine, that doesn't bother me at all.

What bothers me is if I have it set on vent it seems like after a few minutes of driving, the A/C always kicks on which makes the air blow really cold. I've had this happen a dozen or so times over the past year. I guess it's good to hear that others are experiencing the same thing, sounds like the system is working as designed. Hopefully someone smarter than me will come in here to explain why it does it.

Although I don’t know of a PHEV F150, for the powerboost the manual says blower air can come on to cool the battery????

“Note: For Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) vehicles, the blower motor may run, and you may feel airflow when the climate control is off, to provide cooling to the battery”.
