Also cylinder deactivation is not active in sport and tow haul drive modes. A tune can also make it so that it does not activate in normal or eco drive modes.

I only noticed it once I added an exhaust system. It's very noticeable and quite annoying as a result.I can't tell when mine deactivates cylinders, so I guess it's not a problem for me. I'll take improved mileage anytime I can get it.
You noticed that...yes it help, smooth and easy....LOLIt’s that late 60s easy listening that helps
I track every mile using the Fuelly app. I can comfortably live with 22 on the highway on summer fuel. Winter fuel will give you less. Summer towing 12-13 but winter 11-12. Everyday usage frequently includes short trips which kill mpg in any car. 18-20mpg.Did you measure based on fill-up vs odometer, or based on the dash computer? I also have 21 with 5.0, I do a lot of drives similar to the distances you mentioned and never went above 21.
Don't get me wrong - I am not complaining. I did not buy 5.0 expecting a Toyota Prius MPG, just saying that I never saw 24-25. Granted - I go by the computer.
On a positive note, even if cylinder 1’s VDE solenoid or roller rocker were to be acting up, it’s right under the valve cover and not a very invasive diagnosis or repair. Look forward to an update though.Ya'll ain't gonna believe this shit. JUST NOW, my truck started misfiring, dropped a cylinder completely under load at least. Has one code pending, P3402. I found this on the internet:
Cylinder 1 Deactivation/Intake Valve Control Circuit Performance
So, I may have the board's first 5.0 cylinder deactivation problem. That said, it may well be something not plugged quite all the way in. I doubt it's anything very serious. I will be getting it to the dealer soon though.
