Good morning,
2021 f-150
I have an update showing. I have tried multiple times to run the 2.5 hour update and the truck will not take it. Ford claims it is the 9v battery not having enough power.
Battery was checked by a professional battery technician and is perfect.
I have tried booking up a charger and running the update with no luck. I was sure to turn anything off inside the truck the runs 24/7 when I drive it. I have driven for over an hour prior to starting this update.
I have disconnected the battery to try to reset everything and still no luck.
many help would be appreciated.
Thank you

There is no 9v battery only 12v. what engine do you have because if its the powerboost there is 2 12v batteries. also how did you hook up the charger? if you connected the charger leads directly to the battery terminal then the battery magament system (bms) will know that the battery is charged. the negitive lead has to go to a body ground or before the bms system.

Yes sorry 12v. I did both of them directly to the battery, I will try to the body of the truck when I get home. I hope this works and will keep the question and troubleshooting methods posted as I try.

you will probally have to reset the bms manually or just wait and it will eventually reset itself. then the update will hopefully work.

Ha, join the club. Same here. 4 failures so far, full charge etc. Ford is amateur hour when it comes to this. Your kind of expected to do it yourself is what most of the advice you will get on the subject. Don’t understand why Ford has the silly updates when the vehicles are incapable of receiving them.

No worries I think we all have the same problem here. I can't update successfully, too. I've tried over 5 times doing this and now I ignore this update. I believe the next update would be a successful one.

I also have this issue. 2021 SCREW FX4 3.5 L Ecoboost. Update has scheduled and failed 5 times. Went to the dealer yesterday and was told that it would be October before they could get it in to check it out. They told me if my battery voltage was low that it would show up as a code and they checked mine on their computer and said it was good. They advised to connect the truck to my home WiFi which I did and it still didn't update. I checked my battery this afternoon after driving it most of the day with a multi-meter and measured 12.23 volts. Seems low to me. I've got 100 miles left on 3/36 warranty. Customer service sucks! Pretty frustrating at this point...

I definitely feel for this, but is connecting battery to a charger helps? I haven't tried it yet maybe this would solve the low-voltage issue.

It might if nobody steals it. I park my truck outside. These days there are scumbags everywhere...

Sounds like a Covid battery to me. 12.23V on recently driven EB battery? Replace it imo

Mine doesn't have it in that spot. I'm on 4.2.4 but made some forscan changes.

Did you skip over some updates?
The message was added in an update so you might pick it up if you get 4.3.4.

So you were able to get it to update? What did you do. I had that feature on my vehicle until the update that came across in June and then it went away. So I have tried connecting a charger correctly and it says preparing update, and then everything turns off, I have resent the battery management system manually and still nothing. It is a sink for system so everything should be working properly according to the dealer.
