Hi everyone, just curious if anyone has had a similar experience. I have a 2022 3.5L that had battery issues and a subsequent replacement in late 2023. The replacement was done by Ford with a motorcraft battery. Everything has been fine since then until today.

My battery seems to be dead again. I checked any my alternator output is fine, and there doesn't appear to be a drain anywhere. Has anyone else had these motorcraft battery's perform so poorly?

I live in the south now, but my wife had a battery from Walmart last her 7years when we lived up north, so I just find it hard to believe that Fords batteries are actually this bad.

I have a 22 with the 5.0 and I have had to replace the battery twice and only have 30,000 miles on the truck

23 5.0 with 10k on it and have replaced already..

It’s a pretty common issue, many have upgraded to a larger battery and gone away from the stock motorcraft. If you are like me and don’t drive the truck a lot, a tender is another option. A lot of threads on here to let you know your options for battery sizes. The stock H6 is worthless with all the electronics on these trucks nowadays.

I have a 2021 with about 47k and still on the original Ford battery. Just checked the SOC and it sits at 68% after a 20 minute ride home from work. It maybe time to replace it in the near future but still working on.

Motorcraft batteries are terrible. When Johnson Controls was building them the quality was much better. Clarios took over in 2019 and its all been downhill.

Exactly same situation here, will probably get another Motorcraft, it’s been great.

Could possibly be the second most discussed issue with Gen14 trucks. Especially the dolled up ones.

In other words, welcome to the 12V AGM blues club.

Fortunately there are solutions

Its not just F150s. All Fords have the issue. The EFL batteries are worse. First and foremost people need to confirm what battery they have. Ford is known for using EFL batteries where an AGM is required. My F150 was shipped with an EFL installed and it required an AGM per the build sheet. I learned to look after my Maverick battery issues. The dealer replaced the battery before I took delivery.

Too bad you aren't local to me. You could have the nearly new Motocraft battery I removed for free, that I replaced with an H8 Walmart one.

Three dead MC batteries in three years on a 2021. There would have been a fourth but the forum members here verbally beat into submission to get a H8 Napa or something better. Got 79.3782 miles on this new 2025 F150 and the battery's still going strong. Hope it holds up this time.

Personally, three years on a Motorcraft battery has been about average for me. I had a 2020 Explorer ST and a 2017 Explorer Sport and both vehicles needed the battery replaced at about three years. Just my experience.

I had the OEM Motocraft batteries in both my 2020 Ranger and 22 PB fail after about 14-16 months. Replaced them with Walmart batteries and have not had any issues since. Yeah I could have had the dealer replace them under warranty but why replace a crap battery with another crap battery.

Yes. My 2021 had a failed Motorcraft battery and so did my 2022. I replaced my 2025 preemptively.
