Alternative to the rubber strip (mod to stop seat tears)

Awhile back a smart person on one of these forums figured out to put a piece of weather striping on the seat to plastic trim interface to stop tears


Today I asked..why not use a piece of floor mat? i cut the strips about 3 inches wide and folded them in half so the fuzzy stuff was up

I have a gazillion of them
Black looks ok...I might cut up a brown mat from the current king ranch if this works out

yeah a great option
i had the weather seal in there, but tired of looking at it
these are strips cut than folded in half so the fuzzy stuff stays up
i am not sure if i can cut up a java brown mat.

You can pop that side plastic panel off and sand the edge very smooth.

I also just learned of this at this moment. I kept the stock mats, so maybe I subconsciously knew?

This gives her a bit of extra slide area..to avoid a pinch ssweeet leg part..

Rubber / foam strips will shift as you move in and out. I had to keep adjusting my front seats' foam strips.

I wasn't aware of this preventative measure. It is a really good idea. I'm OK with either a separate strip or removing the plastic piece and sanding it. I'd prefer the sanding method and have a couple questions.

Does the top piece as shown in the OP's photo come off separately, or is that side and top one big part? If one part, do the seat controls need to be removed first and how are the controls removed?

One big piece. 2 screws are holding it on, one rear, one front. It's not intuitive to remove, it slides forward to be removed, unplug the seat controls once it's free. I've torn down seats about a dozen times and I still think it's a poor design everytime I go put it back on.
