Discovered More Behind the Rear Seat Storage - Check Yours

I am speaking IRT the XL Extended cab (my truck) and based on some video's I have seen, some other 2024's may be different!

So we all know on the passengers side rear seat, the seat back flips forward after you pull the nylon loop to release the lock, exposing your spare tire tools and jack. But the other side also comes down and exposes some serious storage space.

Most video I have seen show that you have to lift the bottom of the seat which will make the back of the seat move out some away from the back of the cab making room for your hand to get back there, NOT ON THE XL EXTENDED CAB! The back of the seat does not move at all, so I carefully stuck my hand back there (in between the carpet and the seat back) and tried to feel around for the release pin, but I could not find it, I did find a little nylon strap and when I pulled on it, the seat released! So you don't need to buy a kit for 30 bucks to add the latch release on a 24, atleast I don't have too, it is already there on my 24! I do need to extend the strap some to make it easier to get to- So go check yours out and don't buy any release kit like in the various video's online until you see if yours has it already and all you need to do it just lengthen it some-I am putting my tire pump, tool roll, first aide kit and some other stuff back there. Quite a bit of room behind that seat!

In this pic, you can see the other 2 nylon loops that are folded up near the top of the back of the cab, they don't do anything, they are anchor straps it appears.

Take a small piece of cord and tie the nylon loop to the nearest headrest post so it doesn't fall down and you are standing in the rain fumbling around looking for it.

True, but a lot of trucks don't have the strap installed, only the pin to release the seat so before people spend 30 bucks for something they don't need, they should check out how their truck is.

If you look at the adds for the kit, it say up to 2024 but MY 2024 doesn't need it. That's why I posted it, not that it is some new discovery, they have changed the design somewhat on the 24's-you have a 22

kudos on the Adventure Medical kit! I carry the same brand stuff in all my vehicles, does double duty on hikes. love those lightweight kits. I usually stuff a bunch of extra band aids in mine.

and true, my 23 did not have the little strap attached, hence the built right solution for me

All Supercabs have the strap attached, even the 13 gens had it. Supercrews don’t get the strap, but it’s easier to get your hand behind the seat to release the latch.

All Supercabs have the strap attached, even the 13 gens had it. Supercrews don’t get the strap, but it’s easier to get your hand behind the seat to release the latch.

That is on the passenger side, but not the drivers. This seems something new for '24, on the drivers side.

Those two straps that don't do anything are part of the child safety seat system I believe.

The Builtright straps are excellent. Have had them in my my SCREWS.

Last time I looked, my subwoofer was taking op that space. Haven't bothered to look behind on my '24 KR, but it has a subwoofer, so I assume it is the same as my '19 Platinum - not worth the bother, not much room.

Lots of electronic hardware back there on my '23KR, but still some room for small, seldom used but always packed(?), absolutely necessary (sarcasm!) small items... For a non-'24, the BuiltRight strap is the answer.

I used a small loop of steel garage door cable to make a loop, and tied a piece of black paracord onto the loop seciring it to the headrest post. My 2022 did not have the little nylon loop.

I've wanted to access that space since my 2016, but I simply can't get my hands back there.

If I ever do manage to open it, I'll definitely attach a cord, but they really should give people a built-in cord of some sort.

Use a box end wrench to grab the pin. That works well for me.
