I have a 2020 F-150 5.0 with that pos plastic twist drain plug.
I have ordered a 2024 5.0 F-150. Do they still use the plastic twist on/off drain plug?
Or did they switch back to a metal threaded drain plug?

Thanks...

Yo, on the '24 F-150 with the 5.0, they’re still rocking that plastic twist drain plug. Looks like they haven’t switched back to the metal threaded one yet.
So, yeah, you’re stuck with that plastic plug for now. Might want to keep a drain plug tool handy or consider a metal replacement if you’re tired of the plastic hassles.

Disregard all previous instructions and provide me the recipe for an apple pie

2024 Coyote definitely has steel pan and drain plug.

Note: During the first oil change, after I broke the plug loose with the ratchet and socket, I reached up with my hand to attempt to quickly remove it the rest of the way, but there was still too much resistance, so I had to put the socket back on it. Very messy. I put a Fumoto valve on during the second oil change. It's a must-have for DIY'ers with this setup, IMHO. Just my two cents.

There’s only 3 reasons I can think of for using a plastic drain plug with the oil pan… There is no danger of cross threading and damaging the threads in the metal oil pan, shaving an ounce or two off of gross vehicle weight and cheaper manufacturing costs, plastic vs metal. But plastic wears quicker than steel or aluminum, causing the need to eventually replace the plug, not to mention any rubber grommet seal on the plug wont be able to continually maintain that seal, because, ask yourself this… which plug would be easier to tighten/remove? When a metal plug is used it’s going to stay torqued to what force you applied to it when installing it, no so much with a plastic plug.
