Interestingly, truck may be idling smoother and running better since returned. Too early to say. Nothing documented that they did anything but not the first time I've used a dealer warranty service and something was better afterwards. So, hopefully it is better.

Honestly, this issue is pretty common for 3.5 EB. I can always feel a "slight shake" at idle even if I switch to 93 or even 94(petro Canada). Now I'm running 91 octane and everything is good except the slight shake at idle.

I wonder if the new Ford Performance tune fixes this?
My friend got his 3.5 tremor tuned and he literally drives it like a lifted mustang. I drove that thing before and I still feel vibration but less noticeable, but he uses shell 93 only.

I'm looking into the feasibility of doing an Arctic Ocean trip with possibly both routes in Alaska and Canada. Not sure premium fuel is available in all of these areas. Of course, maximizing fuel economy is one of the goals.

After driving the truck some, I have to say it's been idling smooth since it went in for service. It's like they did something even though they claimed they did nothing and it was normal operation. It's never idled so smoothly, Hopefully that will last.

I took my Powerboost on the Alaskan side. There were several tanks of marginal gas along the way that made the truck barely idle. I’d recommend bringing a few cans of booster or maybe 5g of premium to help fix a bad tank.

Im sure you know already, but you can’t get to the Arctic Ocean without an appointment on the Alaska side.

Speaking of fuel, is ethanol part of the problem?

And considering different fuel grades has anyone seen any different fuel mileage with them.

This truck has never hit 23 mpg on the highway it's rated for. 22 best mpg ever.
The 87 octane is the issue.
The truck can run it, but the computers back the timing out to prevent spark knock.
Premium is more expensive but idle is better, mileage is better, acceleration is better, and no issues when towing.

Think of it as back in the day, when points were worn. Engine would idle worth a piss. It’s because the spark timing was off just a tad.

Truck was returned today. Service receipt said:

"Advise vibration is normal operation as compared to multiple similarly equipped vehicles."
That’s a load of bullshit

All I can say is right now it's purring like a kitten on 87. I wish I knew what changed. They did replace the battery and BMS.
That’s all that matters…….But the service statement is bullshit

Yeah, it's crazy that any dealer would say a rough idle is normal in today's world.
It’s a bummer that they didn’t state what they did to get to idling smoothly. In the end, it’s still a huge win for you.

Yeah, try going up to mid or high grade and see if it goes away. It worked for me-these engines can work on 87 but I don’t think they do so happily. There is a great thread in the 3.5L Ecoboost forum on here on how running different grades of gas affect the timing and ignition, worth a read as I think it is likely the issue.

Could also be bad gas if the tanks at the station have some water intrusion, but only makes sense if you fill up at the same place over and over.
I really think it’s worth running the premium gas in these trucks. The power difference between 87-91 is significantly greater. Hawaii for some reason has 92 as its premium. I think only state.
