2022 Dynamic Bending Headlights

I have an interesting question that some may say, "Everyone knows that," but I do not and can't find the answer.

I have a 2022 F150 Lariat with the 502 package, including the Dynamic Bending headlights. My question is this: four lamps appear to be projectors. From what I can tell, only the lower set are headlights, and the upper set is ambient or back lighting. Is that correct, or should the top projectors come on when the high beams are activated?

I have a 502A as well and only the lower projectors are headlights/high beams. The top do not really serve a purpose

All 4 of the projectors are capable of low/high beams when glarefree is activated.

Snakebitten-

The upper LED projectors only glow; they do not function as a headlight. The lower set of projectors appears to be both low and high beams, which seems counterproductive.

And yes, the hi-tech lights are worth it in my opinion.

My 2023 Platinum 701A has automatic leveling headlamps.
I used Forscan to enable Glare Free option... works pretty good.

100% These are some of the best headlights i've ever personally driven. They even top the headlights I built for my '05 f150 out of 3" Acura TL projectors. Very happy with these F150 headlights.

I'm surprised that a Platinum could be built without auto leveling.

Perhaps this feature was introduced in MY 23? It has dynamic headlamps which make a real difference as we live in the Cascade foothills with windy roads.

I can all but guarantee you have auto leveling for your Platinum headlights, look for the arm described in this thread:

I checked out the link and am uncertain how the arm is tied to the headlamps? From the photos it appears to be mounted above the rear axle. I thought this post in the linked thread was interesting.

From a Ford technician:​

“This is a height sensor, it is an input for the Vehicle Dynamic Module which in turn feeds data to the rest of the modules through the Gateway Module.”​

The ‘22 manual does not say anything about auto leveling headlamps. The only adjustment is a vertical aim adjustment and it’s done manually.

Last year, I switched out all 4 shocks and replaced with 5100's. Added 2" to the front and consequently adjusted the height using the adjustment screw behind each headlamp.

The auto leveling has a limited range, so the headlight is able to be be manually adjusted to be within a desired range to begin with. Do your lights dance up and down at startup (in addition to side-to-side)?

The arm is tied to a system that detects squat, for example, to determine if/how the headlight should adjust vertically to compensate. The data is likely used for other vehicle systems as mentioned in the thread.

It may just be that you are out of range for the auto leveling to function properly. They work fine on my '22 with stock suspension.
