2021 PowerBoost wheels pealing

Hey Guys,

I have a new to me 2021 PowerBoost - Lariat. It was purchased as a certified pre-owned with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. The coating on the wheels is starting to delaminate. Please share your thoughts if this is a warranty-able issue. I've got a call into the services center at the dealer I purchased it from, but no response yet. If not warranty, thoughts on new wheels, versus powder coat, versus paint, versus other. I am happy with the current look and color.

OEM wheel coatings are usually extremely durable and it's practically unheard of for the finish to fail even after just a few years. Depending on what rims you have there's a chance the previous owner painted or plasti-dipped them.

That said if you like the the rim design then having them powder coated would be the next best thing to OEM unless they're chrome underneath. If they were painted chrome rims getting powder coat to adhere correctly takes a lot of work so you might be looking at a bit more to do that with the prep work. Going for aftermarket may actually be cheaper depending on where you take them or what needs to be done to get them to where you want them. It's your truck so do what best suits your wants/needs.

No chrome. Where the coating has failed, you can see the rough aluminum surface underneath. We'll see if the dealer will cover it. If not, I think I'll look into powder coat.

Are the wheels grey or black? I can’t tell with how close up the picture is

Gloss black. The grey you see in the photo is where to coating has delaminated.

The only wheels Ford offers in that pattern that is gloss black are the ones I have on my truck... Looks like someone got those refinished.

Unless you are able to verify those are the Ford Performance wheels, I think you will be out of luck on getting the dealership to do anything about that as the factory wheels are grey. It’s still worth a shot to have them look at it since you recently bought it.

If not then you should be able to get them re-coated fairly easily. Probably looking at anywhere from 4-800 for the set since it's a single color if there's no repair work needed.

I don't want to worry you or anything but the same wheels without the ford performance logo on them seems odd to say the least. It makes me wonder if these authentic or knockoff wheels.

I agree with others on here. Those do not look like stock rims and Ford is unlikely to step up. The stock rims in that style are a matte grey, not gloss black.

Outside of the 3yr, 36,000 mile warranty.
