2.7 10 speed shifting

Hey all- when does your 10 speed shift into each gear? Mine is already into 7th, sometimes even 8th at 40 mph. Definitely chugging a bit with any small hill, even in 7th gear. Likewise all of the other speeds seem also be in too high of a gear, I just notice the 40 mph thing because 80% of my driving is at that speed. This is in normal drive mode, I know sport mode or tow mode can change the gear shift pattern.

Yeah I noticed this as well on my 3.5 so I would say it’s normal.

Same.
My 2018 and 2019 didn't shift like that. It is quite annoying. I use the +/- button to lock out gears 8,9 and 10 around town. It helps.
I'm guessing Ford put some programming into the transmission for fuel economy

Does your truck “like” to be in 7th at 40 mph? Not sure if the 3.5 would accept that high of a gear better than the 2.7…

It drives fine so I can’t say it’s causing any issue, I do find it odd but then again this is my first 10 speed. I did buy the ESP early this month as the transmission is a concern of mine on this truck. I will say my wife’s new 2025 Tremor Expedition shifts smoother and doesn’t have the high pitched whine that my truck has.

Yeah, it is pretty annoying. My truck will be in 8th going up a hill at 1200rpm in normal and still not shift down. Whole truck is droning and vibrating... I drive in tow mode in the city to avoid the crazy transmission mapping. It drives so much better in tow that I wish I could force it to stay in tow so I don't have to select it every time. The other good thing about tow is it disables the A.S.S. system- which is equally annoying.

Mine between 40 and 45 likes 7th and 8th, when coming to a speed change to 45 it clunks into 8th gear from 9th. At 45mph it’s solid into 8th gear.

Tow haul does nothing with suspension unless you have the adaptive suspension. Separate feature.

Interesting. My steering gets firmer with it in, I know I don’t imagine that and I feel the engine braking

It does nothing to my steering... engine braking has nothing to do with suspension.

I think my coyote is in 7th or 8th in low 40's mph range. It's all about fuel economy.
