The only way they could do 12 quarts would be pump out 4 quarts, fill it run it for a bit. Pump out 4 quarts, fill it and run it for a bit. Pump out 4 quarts, fill it.Another ?, is how are they getting 12 quarts out?
Of the reading and vids I've seen, its more usual to get half that, in one pump out.
Thats not the only way. These transmission have a T-stat in them that is closed below a certain temp (180 I think). To do a proper flush, the trans temp has to be at least high enough to get the T-stat open AND the new fluid also has to be that warm, do it stays open. If both of those happen, you can exchange the 12+quarts. Most dealerships should have a flush machine capable of this by now as its been the same since the 5R110, which was introduced in 2003.The only way they could do 12 quarts would be pump out 4 quarts, fill it run it for a bit. Probably a fair price comparatively. At some point we got used to paying crazy money for dealership work. My grandson runs service dept. for a Colorado Ford dealer. All mechanics bill out at $240 / hr. Crazy.Went to my loval Ford dealer this week and asked about changing my transmission fluid at 30k miles on my 2024 KR PB Hybrid.
My service advisor said they vacuum out approximately 12 quarts of transmission fluid at or near operating temperature than replace it with the same amount. They then drive for a short distance and re-check fluid level and adjust accordingly. He said trans filter change at 60k miles is what they typically do/recommend. Total cost for fluid change is approximately $400.
I didn’t think this charge was way off compared to what I’ve read others have paid on this forum.
Your thoughts/comments are appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Damn, and I thought my labor rate in pool and spa repair was high at $150/hourMy grandson runs service dept. for a Colorado Ford dealer. All mechanics bill out at $240 / hr. Crazy.
well, as far as I know, the whole flush idea wasn’t a topic of discussion. I thought this was a fluid drain & fill conversation.Thats not the only way. Yes, plastic panI plan on putting a metal pan on when I do it at 36k. 2024 fx4 plastic?!
The original post said his dealership quoted him on taking out 12qts, refilling, then adjusting as necessary, the trans holds 12+qts, so it sounded like a flush to me. Personally, Im not bothering to mix 4qts of new fluid with 8+qts of old and repeating that multiple times. The old/ new fluid is going to mix every time. Thats wasting a lot of fluid to still end up with quite a bit of old fluid. Flushing removes the old and replaces with new. But its your time/money/truck, you do you.well, as far as I know, the whole flush idea wasn’t a topic of discussion. I thought this was a fluid drain & fill conversation.
No way in hell what I get transmission flushed with their machine

No reason to get snarky buddy. I guess you have never in your life misread or misinterpreted anything. Must be nice to be so perfect.Yeah, but it didn’t say flush now did it?
I do believe it would be in your best interest to go back and actually read what the OP typed because yeah you got it wrong
I know exactly what a flush is
And if you knew what a flush is, you would understand why about 90% of technicians do not recommend a transmission flush
