I have a 2021 F150 SCREW XLT 84,000 miles. Trucks been great, not a problem, looks good with some aggressive tires. A dealer has a 2021 King Ranch F150 with 25,000 miles. I can trade my truck and $4000 and keep the payments the same. The $4000 isn't a problem for me to pay, I just don't know if it's really the best decision versus keeping mine. I am half way through on the payments (have 3 more years). I put about 18,000 miles on my vehicles a year. If the KR was a 2023, I think it's a good deal. There's nothing my XLT won't do for me, and the extras in the KR would just be fun to have, and it's fully loaded with all the options. Just no factory warranty, and it's not Gold or blue certified as it's not at a Ford dealer. I guess the only thing is, is it worth resetting on payments, and in 6 years when the KR is paid for, would it be worth more than my XLT in 3 years. They would both have about the same miles at the end of their payments. Thoughts anyone? Swap or keep mine?

Lot of variables based on options, engine, prior owner actions or lack thereof. The devil you know is better than the one you don't.

Also, Dave Ramsey would not approve of 4000 dollars of new debt and 3 extra years of truck payments.

A 21 KR sitting in a non Ford dealership with only 25k miles makes me ask WHY? If it was a GOOD truck, you would think in would be at a Ford dealership. Has it got issues and sent to the auction or a buy back for some reason?

I would keep my XLT.

It was a trade in for a new GMC 2500. They had bought a new bigger travel trailer. I have also spent 30 mins on an auto loan calculator, and agree not a good financial swap vs keeping mine and paying it off.

But that's not what's on the table, so drop that fantasy.

IMO the deal you describe is a lot of money in return for a few amenities you admit you don't "need" and a lot of unknown risks.

Nope, I wouldn't do it, but YMMV.

I was just stating it's less of a deal since it's not newer than my current truck, not trying to fantasize it into something it isn't (a 2023). I honestly won't miss the $4000, it's more the starting over on payments. I think everyone is right, keep the truck I have, and maybe even use that $4000 to make a lump payment at the end of payoff time.

Nothing quite like a paid off truck. What from the KR would you want on the XLT? The individual upgrades to your XLT would likely be cheaper.

For example, I upgraded my XLT to the 12" cluster instead of restarting with a 2024 XLT. Came well ahead.

There's nothing in the KR I need, but that's true of any trim level above standard equipment, none of us NEED nicer seats, just nice to have lol. I do a decent amount of driving, so the cooled and massaging seats would be a cool feature to have (I'm in FL), but I've lived this long without them. I just imagine spending a little bit of change in the next three years on maintenance, and I could have used that 3k or whatever on a vehicle with lower miles that had some fun upgrades.

Hard to say, I recently traded a 2014 XLT F150 with 43,000 miles on it mainly because of age. Truck still looked new inside and out. However it was traded at a Ford dealership.

^ This is the way to happiness.

Infotainment (a sponsor here) is one way I can think of to spend some of that $4k on comfort upgrades. They are a cool company

Wife and I always buy new vehicles with the understanding that whatever we buy, we keep for at least ten years. At ten years, we can trade in for a new vehicle with no remorse. I think the shortest time we've kept a vehicle is about 12 years, usually 15 plus. We take care of them and know the history and for us, it takes a good ten years for technology to improve enough to get us interested in something new. We get a three year loan, pay it off and enjoy seven plus years with no payment. This system has worked well for us. So I'd say, keep your current truck.

Nope. I wouldn’t. If you have had a reliable truck up until this point and you are at least halfway paid off, I would keep what you have and pay it off. As others stated, you don’t know the history on the KR, how it has been treated, etc. You’re also trading for the same year truck, but adding $4k and 3 more years of payments. The only positive is you’re getting a truck with 25,000 miles versus your 84k. Vehicles these days in general are very hit or miss on reliability. I’d keep what has been reliable so far, pay it off, then consider a new one at that point. 84k miles is not that high. You should be able to double that without too many major issues. Do you have an extended warranty?

If it doesn't come with the updated CDF drum in the trans, I wouldn't trade it in. Katzkin your seats if you want to spend $1k.

Thank you for the advice everyone. No extended warranty on either truck.
