Out of gas! Electric mode?

What happens if you run out of gas in a Powerboost? Does it let you continue on in electric mode?

Nope, the system logic won't allow it to run in EV mode when it is out of gas. To add to this just like any other typical hybrid the HV battery pack is woefully small so even if it had an EV-only mode which it doesn't it would not get you far at all. Maybe enough to pull off the road into a parking lot or something.

And if you drain your EV battery down to nothing. You might not get it to start if you have to jumpstart it after you put gas in it.

We have had cars left running until they run out of gas and die completely. Had to have them towed to dealer so they could get them started again. We have one car in that needs the EV battery replaced.

I don’t think the OP was going to or anyone was intentionally going to run out of gas. It was just a curiosity question

its a fair question as it would be a nice insurance policy against running out of fuel but unfortunately ev mode in this truck is profoundly anemic. Youd be better off putting in neutral and pushing it depending on how jacked you are. Fortunately pb hybrid seems to do wonders for fuel economy in non highway driving.

Also it’s only 47 horsepower assisted not for acceleration or driving all over. To help boost mpg while coasting or cruising same speed

Maybe when the plugin hybrid comes out u will be safe for some miles but not in the current self charging powerboost

Thanks, this was purely hypothetical. It would be a nice feature in an emergency though. My PB is currently being built so I‘m not exactly sure how the hybrid works. I understand you do actually travel a fair amount of miles (~20% or so) in electric mode but it must all be in short stretches.
