Porpoise Hork: There's an electric clutch that allows the system to decouple the ICE from the electric motor and transmission when it switches between the two. This can be a harsh engagement or so smooth you won't even feel it.

Try a gentler foot on the throttle when restarting ICE. The ICE will respond to the throttle request after it starts. If that is significant it can make the transition much more noticeable and perhaps noisier.

I've found there is a sweet spot in how hard I accelerate from a stop to achieve maximum smoothness, although you will always feel the transition to some extent. I actually find it like driving a manual transmission car: too fast or slow with your technique and it will be harsh. This truck doesn't have a clutch pedal but I find rolling into the gas and aiming for moderate acceleration yields the best results.

I had errands to run tonight, so decided to really pay attention. If I get on it from a stop, it can be a little jerky but even from a stop on a hill, if I take it easy, as one might do on a foggy night, the transition from electric to gas, is imperceptible.

Not for me. I act there is an egg under the accelerator in order to maximize electric take off. doesn't matter. It is actually better if you gas it pretty good.
