Replacement Key - BLADE ONLY ???

Howdy Everyone: This seems like such a simple task....but I've spent days researching without success.

I'm trying to buy another key blade for use to unlock the door. (See attached photo)

When I took delivery of my 2022 F150 3.5EB Supercrew FX4, I got two full-function key fobs... AND ONE CUT KEY BLADE to lock center console and glove box. I want another cut physical key.

Over the last few weeks, I tried all the usual suspects. Various hardware stores, locksmiths, Batteries Plus, two different FORD dealers (who tell you over the phone they can, but upon arrival want to sell you a new key fob). I've tried the dealer where I bought it, who claim THAT key came from the factory with the "customer delivery pack".

FORDPARTS.COM won't even answer emails. Telephone calls to the nice lady in India doesn't understand I don't want to buy a whole new RF Key Fob.

There are some key blanks available at specialty key/lock suppliers online, but none claim to fit 2021 or later Fords. Amazon shows some "blanks" for sale, but those are for inserting into a Key Fob, and are not shaped for use.

I hate to sound like a whiny PITA about this, but I have a specific use for such a key, and since the truck came from the factory with one, assumed that such a part was available, even if I had to special order it and then pay someone else to cut it.

Any advise is appreciated.

Just tell them what you want they can find if if it’s available. Used them on several upgrades that no one could help out in.

Just wondering if you could make a blank and get it cut by a locksmith.

Since this key doesn’t have a transponder, a mobile locksmith should be able to cut you a key quicker (and maybe cheaper) than Ford can? I used to cut keys for many years when I first got into the workforce, and if the locksmith is equipped to cut these kinds of keys, could be a 5 minute deal.

I tried online and was told center cut Ford keys could only be duplicated in person, most likely at a dealer. The seller said the edge cut keys they could be cut using a picture.

I programmed a 3rd fob and need the key cut as well, but haven't yet gone to the dealer.

EDIT: To address your actual question, I also never found the exact spare key we get with the truck, but these look like a decent alternative, if you are able to grab one with free returns to compare the blade -

I bought a 3rd key fob from an online key fob dealer and programmed it myself for $80. It has the blank key in it but I have not had it cut. This could be a cheaper alternative for you if you cannot find those nice spare blanks somewhere. Good luck hunting. Let us know if you find one or a part number for the blank.

When I had to get a new key last summer, the 2 locksmiths I talked about cutting the key in the fob said the center cut ford key take a specific mill with specific software that had just changed with the 21 or maybe 22 model year. Even the dealer I found to help me had to update their mill machine to get mine done. They said the software update cost more than they charged me for the new key, but they had several keys to cut so it was “about time”.

I looked for that simple flat key and didn’t have any luck finding a blank either. Odd. You’d think it would be rather generic.

I'm not sure if anyone outside dealer can cut these squiggly keys. I still have a blank from my third fob I never cut and my forth fob didn't have one.

i had mine cut by a locksmith, but they didn't have the newer software to program the fob. so they didn't charge me.

First, a sincere thanks to everyone who shared their advise and experiences.

Disappointingly, FORD never replied to emails or chats. And calling them was typically useless. I did contact a couple FORD dealers specializing in parts recommended to me. But after some confusion, they all confirmed that replacement "key blades" for the key fob was the only thing in their parts catalog.

Thanks to MOE7 for his suggestion of North Coast Keyless. I've ordered a couple blanks and will see if my local dealer will cut it (since they can cut the FOB blade)

I did visit a couple lock smiths and when I expressed surprise at the $120 "cutting fee", was told that the $35,000 special machine to cut center-milled keys warranted such a fee.

I'll update this thread with what I'm ultimately able to do.

Hello BRINGBACKTHEKEYBAD. Apologies for the delay. I wanted to look up the original part numbers/vendors from July 2024.

YES, I was able to resolve this, but it took some work. With NO support from FORD.

First, everyone, including the specialty Ford parts suppliers want to see you a whole key fob. Nobody claims to be able to find any part number for equipment they give you with your new vehicle.

However I was able to find a matching key blade from NorthCoast Keyless online. I ordered two and they arrived quickly. Best $20 spent (including S&H).

Per my original post, commercial locksmith companies wanted $150+ to ''cut" the blanks, so I went back to my local Ford Dealership Parts Department. I think the manager felt guilty about not being able to help me source the parts earlier. Since it was just a matter of his free time on a machine they already owned, he ended up refusing payment. So I got two cut for free in about 90 seconds. They both work perfectly in my lock set, although the 'head' on the shaft is smaller than the factory blank they give you. But strong fingers and/or a keyring on the will be enough to twist the tumblers in even colder weather.
