F-150---- V8 Gas Mileage? What MPG Do You Get??

Skimmed through this thread. How are some of you getting crazy good MPGs.

I’m driving a new stock 2025 XLT FX4 5.0, currently only 1500 miles. Only 16ish overall mpg, maybe 70% highway, normal mode, light foot. How are some you getting over 20MPG. Will mpg improve as engine breaks in?

I run 87 octane and get about 25 mpg on the highway at about 65 mph.

I've been getting 15 with a lead foot and 35" tires, I am running 91 though which helps.

That MPG doesn't sound too off if it is a mix of city/highway. Around town I get 11 mpg and high (depending on speed, wind, weather) between 18-22. 4x4 3.73 gears with topper and racks on topper.

honestly i thought it was normal too and wasn't expecting much more than what I'm already getting. Only got curious because of what I read in this thread. I only tow my heavy trailer once every month or two. Besides that, it's my daily driver, so the excellent MPG of some of these guys got me intrigued.

I drove from Steamboat Colorado to Laramie, Wyoming a couple of weeks ago. The entire journey is state highway with 65 mph speed limits. I got 22 mpg for the entire journey which was impressive. Conditions were totally ideal though. Cool weather, no wind, relatively low cruising speed etc.

When I am on federal highways (some of which are 80 mph in Wyoming), the high speed, high altitude, plus wind kills the mpg pretty fast. Sometimes in those conditions I will get 17 mpg.

Still better than my Tacoma which had around 2/3 the power so I can't complain too much I guess.

I drove across Wyoming in my work's 2.7 EB and got 24-25 mpg with that. I was thoroughly impressed.

You’re still not broken in yet. You’ll find that your mileage will improve with time. Also…stay away from ethanol. That’s always a hot topic and that will likely piss someone off, but it’s true. Consumer Reports even did a study on it which will back me up.

My ‘19 XL with 3.55s and a performance tune got around 20 regularly. My ‘25 Tremor with 3.73s has the same miles on it as you and it’s just now getting 18. I expect I’ll gain one more mpgwith break in. Both run/ran non-ethanol premium. I don’t baby the throttle.

It always takes a little time for fuel mileage to recover from ethanol usage. A couple tankfuls.

This is my first ford ever. I had a tundra 2015 tundra 5.7 trd and a 2014 Tacoma 4cyl. My tundra was getting like 14mpg and my 4 banger Tacoma was getting somewhere around 17-18mpg, it was so bad. My brother has the new Tacoma non-hybrid and he’s only getting 16-17mpg and has to fill up ever 250-275 miles.

Was never a fan of turbo, but almost bought the 2.7EB because I heard it was reliable and I only tow heavy like once a month. was pretty set on it til I test drove the 5.0, and pulled the trigger on that instead.

cool! Yea I kinda wanna say that I’ve noticed the mpg creeping up a bit or maybe I’m just more conscious when driving…not sure…but seems like it on my 4th tank of gas. Also did oil change after 1k miles with mobil synthetic. No ethanol for me, don’t know anything about it tbh, just gonna stick with the recommended.

What is break-in as far as settling in with MPG? I saw TFL truck did a test with a Ford Maverick (hybrid) and it was brand new and only getting 29 mpg when it was rated around 40 mpg. Ford saw the video and reached out to TFL and said do the test again after 5,000 miles. They did and the MPG was around 40 mpg. I know hybrids are a different animal but I wonder when you are fully broken in as far as MPG is concerned.

I have a 21 XLT with a lift and 34 inch tires. I get 16 around town and from 20 to 23 on the highway. The key is staying below 70mph when possible.

My wife has a Kia sorento PHEV. It gets 32miles EV range and becomes a hybrid after that. Rolled a dice when I bought it for her because it was the first year model of that vehicle in 2022. The MPG on the hybrid system was supposed to be 26/32. First 6 months of ownership I was really annoyed by how it was only getting like 22-24 mpg. It was my wife’s car, I don’t drive much at all. But ever since it was around 5-6k miles on the odometer, now 42k, been getting consistently 32-33MPG and we drive normal, no hypermiling or anything. So it’s pretty nuts how much of a difference from new to past break in period. Hopefully there will be significant changes with my truck as well….but I’m not asking for much.

On the highway I get 19.5 - 20 with a stage 2 Whipple running 80 - 85. I'm in western OK and its always windy also.
