Why wouldnt this work for all past models? I was able to follow along and get the toggle to appear in my instrument cluster.

Because the 21-23 BCM asbuilt address structure doesn't have this due to our firmware:
BCM 726-89-02 x1x1 x1x1 x1--
BCM 726-90-01 xxx1 xxxx xx--

so unless Ford sends us a BCM update in the future, it won't work. You might be able to get it to appear in your Sync touchscreen but it won't let you enable it with the toggle button because of the BCM structure.

Gocha I'll take a look again when I get out of work just to double check any differences. I know on 04/30 I received a large update covering multiple areas of the vehicle's software

One report of it being physically smaller, as in it's a different product entirely. Firmware can't do much for it if that's the case.

Several people have been trying to get this working for a while so you're not the only one remaining hopeful. It's a handy feature to have sans those few times you want the vehicle to remain unlocked and then you'll dislike it for however long you want it to remain unlocked for and then you're back in the habit of walking away and letting it do its thing. It's a love love hate love kind of thing

Then there's PAAK, or phone as a key. One of the recent updates in the mach-e I found that it thinks the phone is next to it despite being 20' away and it will allow the doors to unlock. Combine that with cats that like to walk next to things and suddenly you'll find the rear hatch randomly open because it's got a the hands free foot swipe sensor which registers kitty walking by as a command to open the hatch. Fun stuff.

I have it on my wife’s Pilot and hate it because I have to go inside to get the keys so often. Having the keypad entry on my truck would make this a very handy feature that would eliminate that headache.

They've separated the fuses from the BCM now so I would imagine it's smaller but that's not to say a software update to the 21-23 BCM couldn't include the Walk Away Lock if Ford so desired.
