Is this a temporary or trial thing?
I'm not paying anything for this. I just turned it on and drove.

I think your truck comes with mapping included, but you would probably need to pay for updates down the road.

I use Apple CarPlay so I almost never use the Ford Nav. I did once and it freaked me out that my gauge cluster “shrank”…I hated the look. Luckily all was restored.

I use Google Maps and Wayz all the time and must not have the turn by turn option checked for them, because my gauges never shrink using them. I’m happy enough with the map on the big center screen and the verbal directions.

If you use Apple Maps with CarPlay you'll get the turn by turn navigation, just not with Google Maps or Waze. If you are an Android Auto user you will get the turn by turn with Google Maps (just not via CarPlay).

Any idea why the lack of turn by turn in the cluster with Google Maps or Waze (while using carplay)? Is this a restriction from Apple trying to get you to use their nav? I admit, before having this F150 I never used Apple Nav, but now I do for this feature. Hopefully if it's an Apple restriction maybe they'll allow it someday as I do find it useful.

Good question. I would assume its an Apple thing though. I don't think that Google Maps turn by turn in the cluster ever worked with CarPlay but not positive as I remember it working at one point but I'm assuming that was on my Android phone before I switched to the iPhone.

There seems to be so many different gauge clusters. It’s almost like Ford can’t make up their minds WHICH gauge combination to offer!

Just look at all the different versions in this thread:

https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/20-mpg-club.19756/
That goes with a conversation I was just having yesterday.
I think one thing that hurts Ford is all of these different options. There's like seven or nine different grills depending on what model truck you get. All of that takes R&D and then of course the molds and production.
Those are some of the things I think Farley should focus on.

It also shrinks to accommodate the navigation prompts when using Apple Maps (and presumably Google maps).
It just dawned on me that my gauges are different from the gauges you guys are displaying. Y'all have Lariat or above trucks are different that my XLT gauges. The RPM gauge and speedometer are fixed and look like analog ones.

Ford F-150 Are gauges smaller now? 04) 118.5 mi - 4.1 elect mi - 11.3 mpg - 05.06.22

I like the scaling better with navigation in play. I'll tell Alexa "route me home" just to trigger the tighter scaling.
I assure you that I know how to get home without her help.

Most of the time anyway.
Reminds me of a joke I heard the other day "One of the things I learned when I got married was I didn't know the way home till she was there to tell me".

I now know where to look for driving directions because I was just asked about notifications on the instrument cluster the other day.

Nice little animation as the gauges reconfigure and move out of center when I tell truck "take me home."
I do think the space could be utilized differently and gauges don't need to be as tiny. It could be worse though, the mixed analog/digital dash is a clusterfuck with random icons crammed into weird locations.
