Love the concept, but I didn't think anyone would use a smaller hybrid traction motor than the Powerboost.

That Toyota is 1/2 that?

That's a lot of added componentry for 16HP.
48V and no electric mode.

Kinda pushing the definition of a Hybrid in the modern sense.
Dodge Hemi Hybrid comes to mind.

Just cuz it CAN be built, doesn't mean it should be built.
Local dealer got a 2020 Platinum Powerstroke been sitting on his lot, I think for years.... plural.
They can't sell it.
Diesel is currently 0.74 cents higher than gas where I live.

That's like ram 'e-torque not remotely close to a hybrid' system. I think that's it's technical name.

I think ford is done w/ diesels in F150 for now in the US. Demand just wasn't there. They need to look at serious electrification strategy in some form though. They've pretty much milked all of the COTS parts bins. It's time to tell the lawyers and bean counters to piss off while they fill a serious hole in the market using whatever feasible solution that looks like.

That 3.0 PS was the Lyon engine out of a 2004 Range Rover wrapped in Ford badging. Besides being a gutless pig, they are insanely unreliable and notoriously horrendous to work on. Awful engine package. I feel bad for anyone Ford suckered into buying that engine. It’s truly lousy on all fronts, and a maintenance nightmare as it ages. The timing set is weaker than the 5.4L 3V. To add salt to the wound, the 5.4 3V from 2007 was still faster than a 2022 Powerstroke F-150 LOL.

well they didn’t market it much and from my understanding a bad reputation engine… I mean GM is selling like hot cakes across their 1/2 line up and SUVs… can’t beat 28mpg city on a full size truck

If I was to get a GM 1/2 ton, it would be the Duramax for sure. Pretty solid engine.

yeah I’m actually in the market for a duramax Tahoe/Yukon. I’ve met several folks and they love them! Only complaint is hauling with it takes a lot more DEF… which if there was ever to be a hybrid option, maybe it will help with towing & MPG ??

I bought a "new on the showroom floor" 2018 Power-boost Platinum late in 2019 for $16000 off MSRP because it couldn't be sold. At that time, diesel was cheaper than gas and growing up on a farm, I had no problems with a diesel F-150 and certainly had no problems with the truck itself. When the Gen 14's came out in 2021, I ordered a King Ranch hybrid and sold my Power-boost to CarMax at $5000 more than the dealer was offering for trade-in. That was one of my best decisions - selling the truck to a dealer than a Ford dealer and selling the truck before diesel skyrocketed. I won't be buying another diesel anytime soon.

What good is 28MPGs per gallon when you are paying 0.70-0.80 cents more per gallon... and then have to add in DEF every few tanks. No way it can be cheaper to go deisel today... Even on an old school non-DEF required truck. Still almost a buck a gallon more than gas....

True. I guess it just depends on if you want to take your truck to 250k+ miles. Diesels do that on the reg. There isn't any torque advantage at the 1/2 ton level for towing in reality. Just kinda comes down to longevity.

2021 XLT Screw 5.0,4x4,302Asport,
VW killed off any nascent light diesel revival with their tomfoolery. That engine wasn't the one originally intended for the F150. The 4.4 V8 diesel was the target but the 3.5 Ecoboost killed that....

The 3.0 was originally a 2.7 and installed in mostly Discovery 3/4 vehicles sold around the world. Ford shipped the production line to the USA, modified the engine and apparently made a mess of it. That said the emissions BS has made any light diesel and potentially anything below F550 diesel an endangered species.
