Hey all, I have a 2021 F150 lariat. Today I noticed a squeal/squeaking noise coming from what I think is somewhere in the front only at super low speeds. Once I get a little speed it’ll go away. you can hear it clearly in the video. I think it’s been making it for a little while now as I’ve noticed it before briefly but not enough to make me think anything was wrong. Any thoughts? It’s under warranty and I need to take it in for a bad clock spring in my steering wheel anyways….

Yep
So I am at 81K miles on my 21 PB and it is doing this same exact thing. It does not go away when brakes are applied, so I don' t think it is a brake pad indicator. It is also not consistent in tone, etc. Jakeo32 did you take yours to the dealership yet?

No I haven’t yet. In fact it’s going in next Monday for the clock spring in the steering wheel. I am going to show ford the videos of this and have them inspect though because it’s back today. It seemed to have went away for a week and now it’s back tonight. It is very odd. Only makes the noise at low speeds, brakes and steering changes don’t seem to really affect a whole lot either.

So the noise is only at low speed , say less than 20 mph? Stepping on the brakes lightly does not increase or decrease the noise.? How many miles on your truck? The noise in your video does not sound like brakes dragging, but it is possible that you have a caliper piston that is not retracting fully. When the brakes are applied and then released, the piston retracts into the caliper a small amount. Sometimes rust and gunk prevent the piston from retracting fully and it remains in contact with the rotor very lightly. The rotor turning as your speed increases forces the piston in, thereby removing the source of the noise. This usually is a result of high milage. The only remedy is replacement of the caliper. If that is the case, then I would recommend pad replacement if there is uneven wear, but it's up to the dealer and what warranty will cover. Good luck

33k miles. Caliper was actually replaced once on the side It appears to be coming from because while I was installing the 2 inch level I have it was accidentally damaged. The only thing I can really pin point it to is brakes honestly . I’ve bounced up and down on the suspension, inspected etc and nothing. It seems weird however that it is so Intermittent. I’d think if it WAS brakes it would be more consistent and not come and go a week later but I honestly can’t think of anything else it could be.

I read on an F250 forum they are having similar issues and it was chased down to grime where the hub connects. From the forum
" In the hub assembly, there's about a 2mm gap between the two main parts. I noticed some caked in rust/dust/grit, and proceeded to soak it with PB Blaster. After letting it soak a while I scraped out the chunks of crap with a micro-file (it's a tiny gap) and sprayed it out with some carburetor cleaner and compressed air. I finished by spraying a tiny bit of liquid wrench into the gap."

The F150 hub seems similar, so this could be the culprit. I will probably tear into it this weekend.

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your F-150 concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.

Ok, never heard of this, but it's worth a try. It can't hurt anything.

Yes, usually brake noise is more consistent . You state that the caliper was damaged and was replaced. Can I ask what happened? Also, was the whole caliper and bracket replaced or was just the caliper alone replaced. I'm wondering if something didn't get slightly bent and the caliper no longer slides like it should. Thanks.

My 2021 Lariat had the same sound. I played around with Front brake hose clip. You can have a look at this TSB. It shows which hose I am talking about. That black clip on the blue hose (picture in TSB) was causing my issue.

Kind of a dumba** moment with what happened. My dad and I were installing a 2 inch level (my dads super versed on anything mechanical he’s an engineer) but me not as much and we happened to tap the brakes while the caliper was disconnected and obviously it was shot. I didn’t want to mess around with it anymore so i just had ford replace the caliper. I have no clue if they replaced the bracket as well. I’d have to look at my ford pass app and see if it’s notated.

Interesting! This says rubbing noise, I wouldn’t really say it sounds like that. You said yours sounded the exact same? My truck was built before that date on the TSB

Yes I was squeaking sound passenger site. My truck build was June 16 2021 so this TSB did not apply to it. Are the hose routed correcty on yours?

Just looked. Mine look correct. You’re saying the clip was your cause? What did you do to fix. I’m taking my truck in next week anyways but I don’t trust the dealership on this kind of stuff… so ideally I may play around with it first.
