Yeah I've been getting by without one but I believe it's time I get one. Funny you mention harbor freight I looked on app and they actually have a sale going on right now for $11.99 for 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 each. I believe I might just run up there get me a 3/8 and 1/2.

I get some things from harbor freight. If I need something I know it's gotta hold up to abuse I'll get better brand. I call harbor freight my disposable tools . Lol

I just watched a YouTube video of install. Dang if I'd watched that sooner I'd been having one on my truck. I've always seen the one that goes by the cables and alot of people talk bad about them. I'll be ordering tonight. Thanks guys for all the info and the pic.

Yes it's way ahead of the one that goes by the cable. It never worked right on my 2011 and went into trash. I just lived without it.
If you can retrofit the automatic tailgate drop too then even better. That probably is a lot of work though.
I like being able to backup and drop the tailgate before I walk back there.

I had Granger install mine. I had ordered it when I placed the order with them and it's even on the window sticker but it was a dealer installed item. They even gave me the old red painted part they took out I guess so I would know they installed?

On my old truck I put one on myself and I don't know if it was old/returned/bad stock or what the deal was but it would lower slowly then the last inch or so it was like the dampener wasn't there. Never did look into if there was an adjustment on it. Next guys irritation now.

Unlock and drop is so nice. Why not just go with OEM? Are you guys replacing a worn out strut or upgrading the tailgate?

OP is adding damper they don't have it now. Even without auto drop it is a nice thing to have an easy down tailgate.

Absolutely. I have it with damping and no strap. Combine that with the old man step and the BedRug it's amazing. I get oohs and aahs from co-workers when they ask to see the truck

I believe that's the same part number as one I'm ordering. I have a 23 stx. Says it's supposed to fit . Shouldn't be any other things needed just that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong tho I haven't gotten mine yet
