I have the 6 ton harbor freight ones that i bought specifically for the truck, 6 ton ones (https://www.harborfreight.com/6-ton-heavy-duty-ratcheting-jack-stands-yellow-58349.html) except mine are black. They turned out to be smaller than the frame (see pics). I don't want the frame to slide off them from improper seating. Are there other jack stands anyone can recommend that are wider perhaps or a better spot to place my current ones at? Thank you.

I have a set of 4x 5 ton Walker Jack stands. These stands have a very wide saddle able to span the frame rails on most trucks. There old school made in the USA will never fail. Walker was purchased by Hein Werner and they are still available but pricey. I'm afraid to use anything that's not high quality if I'm going to be working under it.

I’m guessing that’s a typo, you have the 6 tons and not the 5 tons.

I have the same 6 tons.

They may be overkill, but it beats being crushed to death.

No typo, the old Walkers were only rated for 5 but when Heim Werner bought Walker they they re-rated them to 6 ton, they look identical when next to each other. Material upgrade maybe? ?

damn, those are pretty expensive for jack stands. i'm just curious where to place mine at this point since i don't feel like dropping 250 for these.

that's the jack placement, i'm referring to actual stands
the jack stands will work under the front crossmember for sure. i haven’t tried placing jack stand(s) under a pumpkin before though.

Yes, I agree, but I bought the set of 4 new for $250 when I was nineteen, I needed to lift my 1979 F250. Lol "Bigfoot" was the rage! I'm 59 now and yet to be crushed because of them. So after 40 years of service they really only cost me $6 25 a year. ?

mine are about 45 years old as well, been dropped from bed of work truck. welded to a steel bed of a work truck , they are 12 ton capacity. heavy as a fridge and thick webs. they will PINCH a finger if not paying attention i will pass then down when i die (y)
my Father in law gave them to me when he passed in 92
i use them for the bus as safety
lift it up with the jacks and settle the frame down on em.
cant skimp on quality

so in the rear you just place them on the axle itself?

There are arrows on the frame for the jacking points. I usually set the jack up just next to them and put the jack stands at the jacking points. My jack stands don't span the frame, I set them up lengthwise with cardboard on top to prevent scrapes. If something can knock a ~3 ton truck off the jack stands in my driveway, I think I have bigger problems than the truck falling off the jack stands.

around here a big crapping wolf spider can easily cause a 3 ton truck to depart the stands...
them things jump on you and BOOM your moving out, running into stuff etc , knocking down trucks, chairs etc
i would rather a snake slither up than one of them darn 8 legged hairy freaks

yeah i was thinking of putting them lenghtwise as well but wasn't sure if that's a good idea. glad to see someone is doing it without issues.
