Anyone have a catch can setup that works with the Powerboost they could recommend?
I had a UPR setup ony 13 3.5 Eco that worked great, but it doesn't look like they make one to work on or fit the Powerboost. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

The MY13 could benefit from a catch can because the engine was direct injection. Since MY17 the Eco Boost has been multi-port injection. This has mitigated the need for a catch can. A catch can won't hurt anything and can still be beneficial though. Worst case is that it does nothing.

Pull off the hoses to your intercooler and let me know what that looks like.... All the port injection helps to clean is right at the valve. Your still sucking all that crap right into your intake system, no bueno.
My 13 had @ 3k on it when I upgraded the intercooler and it looked like I dumped an oil change into the hoses, nasty. The new ones will look the same, regardless of the injector setup.
Good luck?

To add to this, the other thing adding a catch can could do is give the dealer a possible reason to deny possible warranty claims if they somehow managed to determine it was the direct cause of any issues related with the engine and PCV system.

Ford would have to prove that the mod contributed to the issue that it was brought in for to deny a warranty claim. For this mod, that would certainly be a tough bridge to build. If you're that concerned, simply keep the old hose and put it back on before taking it in. There are no permanent modifications going on.

That is true, but doesn't mean some jackass dealership service department won't try to claim that. In that case usually taking the truck to a different dealership is all you need to do.

Totally agree! And I don't really want the jackass dealership working on my truck anyway, so bonus!

J & L makes one for the 21 and 22 powerboost. Have one on my Ecoboost and it works fine.

@Snakebitten is the expert on all things PB…thoughts? I’m considering a catch can as well. Did. It have one in my 11 EB. 200K miles zero issues. Had one on my 19 EB and definitely could see the benefit. Nervous about touching anything on this 22 PB.

Well that's flattering. ?
But I assure you that I'm really just an old man who spends way too much time reading what the collective have experienced. Admittedly for years now.

Having said that, I prefer to dance around this subject a bit. I personally will not be putting a catch can on mine. I have great respect for the design of the factory PVC system after being "schooled" by someone who IS very knowledgeable about the 3.5 Ecoboost. He's pretty convincing regarding how Ford approached managing the crankcase ventilation on this motor. It's well thought out and had a ton of testing behind it. It's not just parts bin stuff slapped on.

But that same fella did agree that if someone insisted on adding a catch can to this motor, if they KNOW what they are doing, and thus avoid the really poorly designed ones, they could at least mitigate the risks of creating problems, some of which can be serious long term.

I fix software bugs!
I installed the UPR version on my 5.0L at 10 miles. The 5.0L has direct and port injection like the EB engines, but no turbo/intercooler plumbing obviously.

I still felt that even with port injection that's suppose to "wash" the back side of the intake valves, the oil mist is settling some where in the intake manifold. Like others say, can't hurt, easy to remove it if you need to.

I did modify my UPR though. I didn't like the way the bracket was sitting sky high in the engine bay, so I shortened it to be the same height as the battery. It's still higher than the engine though. I also didn't like the way the inlet hose from the valve cover dipped way down then up to the UPR. I felt that oil will collect in the lower bend. So I modified the hose enough so the oil could seep back to the valve cover and yet still allow the engine to rock on its mounts.

At just over 1000 miles now, only about a tablespoon of oil, no condensation that I could see, truck is kept in a garage over night.
