I really like that mounting option. Probably one of the cleanest I've seen. My only complain, and it's minor and fixable, is why the yellow and blue plugs?!?! Just make them black!

Basically the sensor will be the same as most other dash cams, it will come down to post processing.
I use a windshield sun screen....A LOT!. and what intrigues me about the fitcamx is it's mounting because it specifically wont' interfere with the sunscreen I use (which is pretty well fitting). It would also mean that I could use their parking mode if I wanted ot and the sunscreen would work wihtout modification (from cursory looks).
i agree with this statement. i did...some research and from what ive gathered is the chipset and the Novatek 96670 are a decent set up for the price. seems there isnt a lot of info on the lens quality. its 8MP which is good but of course there are better set ups. one thing about the FitCamX that sucks is that it doesnt have GPS. I REALLY wanted it but decided at the end of the day i'll save a little money b/c i like the clean install the FitCam offers.
My windshield is a 70% ceramic tint. I used to live in CA where it's illegal to put ANY tint on your front windshield...so you can barely tell anything is there. I got it to block the heat... and it does a tremendous job.
I have a tendency to get into what we call "analysis-paralysis" when it comes to purchases like this.
I literally spent months looking at different cameras. I finally purchased the Nextbase 622GW (https://nextbase.com/dash-cams/622gw-dash-cam/) ... it's a phenomenal camera with A LOT of nice features. That appealed to the geek in me. But, It's also about $465 (Front & Rear camera and cable kit). Plus, $250 for someone to install it properly. I went so far as to order it from Amazon.
Long story short... I returned the Nextbase and purchased a VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K + 1080P Front and Rear Dash Cam from Amazon for $200 less. So, that just about covered having someone professionally install it. There are enough smart folks on this forum that will help you, if you choose to install it yourself.
There were three reasons for the switch: #1 - The Nextbase has a lithium-ion battery, the VIOFO has a super capacitor. This makes a difference in weather extremes... especially HOT weather. #2 - I probably would rarely use the cool features in the Nextbase after the first week. #3 - The price.
Things I wanted in a dashcam:
So that you don't think that I am a total VIOFO fan-boy... there are some things I don't care for about the unit:
- 4K... it's a dashcam, I wanted the best picture. Look at the online comparisons, and you'll find that the VIOFO is right up there with the top video of any dashcams.
- Front & Rear dashcams
- Parking Mode. I am not sure why so many people dismiss parking mode, for me, it's important. The VIOFO will trigger recording on shock OR motion. Sensitivity for both is selectable. You need to get the $25 wiring setup for this to work properly. In that setup, there is a power meter that will shut down the camera if your battery gets too low (a selectable value) so that you do now drain your truck battery.
- Buffered Recording! If the dashcam doesn't have buffered recording in parking mode the camera doesn't start the recording until after the triggering even happens and the camera fully powers up. This could miss a lot of information (maybe 5-6 seconds). The VIOFO buffers video, so you get the 15 seconds PRIOR to the triggering event.
- It has a screen... granted a small one, but it comes on for a little while when I first start driving then turns off. I like to know it's working.
- It's fairly small.
I have only had it for a couple of weeks, but I am happy with it so far.
- It's not super geeky with lots of bells and whistles... it's a basic dashcam. The
- *IF* there is a triggering event while your car is parked, there is no indicator on the unit. I would REALLY like it if there was an audible alert if the shock sensor detected something.
- The app is just "ok" ... but it works. The best way to view the videos is pull the card and view them on your computer.
- I cannot "remote view" the camera from my phone... that would require a camera with a cell card... $$$

There are a lot of REALLY nice, high end, cloud connected, fancy dashcams... Thinkware, Nextbase, Garmin, Blackview, Vantrue (I looked VERY hard at Vantrue because it uses a super capacitor also)... and they are all good dashcams. I just ended up getting the VIOFO.
