It's good to see version numbers aligning between model years
Yeah.. This gateway version is identical to the 2022 Gateways. They were as of YESTERDAY MORNING pushig a different version and now they unified them. This is good

I have Alexa working in my Job 1. I didnt think it would be anything I would use and I was wrong. its so fluid and nice. I can easily add a destination.. check weather. Its really nice. So Im sure its coming soon.
It's always on right? You don't have to prompt Alexa at all?

Yea.. I say alexa.. It beeps and I can say take me to wherever.. whats the weather.. call someone... it does it fast too. Really nice. I honestly thought I would never use it then I decided to try and activate it since it was there. I have a new 2023 version in my truck. I like it a lot.

The new 22228 that rolled out guys.. it is NIICE> The nav app on that version is the best I have ever seen. Smooth as they get the UI is buttery smooth. Man its nice. The whole interface is nice.

Now the 23 version I am running has incredibly new maps.. I installed the 22228 nav app in my 2023 version of sync 4 and its perfect. Its 22228 with the newest maps.

Soon I hope job 1 will see this version there is no excuse for it to not be out yet. I have tested and 22228 lost connectivity on the previous Gateway version we had but worked with HCK/HCL now that is the version we have.

Can't wait now. I know people have opinions on Alexa and big brother but we use it heavily in our house so having it in the truck will be nice. Also happy to hear the UI is even smoother than it is now. I really like my current version of Sync so any improvements are a cherry on top.

I take some guff when I brag on how well Alexa works. I too never even considered that I would ever use it since I had never said "Alexa" in my life. ?

Ironically it's the truck that is responsible for Alexa now being in my life, and responding to my every whelm. She keeps the best grocery list, bar none.

Yeah Alexa definitely incites paranoia :)
I've been pretty comfortable with her since I started writing a whole Alexa integration for SmartThings and now for Hubitat.
She is definitely very capable!

Is there a fee for using Alexa?

Technically yes.

@Snakebitten you would know this I do not. Does alexa give you the ability to control your truck from alexa in your house?
(Edit: Everything stated in this post changed only minutes later. You'll see as you scroll past this post)

Do you mean "Alexa as a key", similar to phone as a key?

Oh I want it! But no, nothing there that I have found. I believe it would require Ford to add the FordPass "skill" to Alexa? Or at least that would be the easiest way to integrate. Literally giving Alexa access to the FordPass API's?

As far as big brother...... I get a big grin since if you want a Gen14 F150 with its amazing array of technology? It's NOT the way to go if you want to hide from the cloud, if you know what I mean.

@Snakebitten

It looks like you can add the skill.. You have to llink it in the alexa app on your phone

(Edit: This post too was just moments before discovering Ford had updated the FordPass skill to include Gen14 trucks)

That's what I actually meant as "Alexa as a key". Alexa would need access (and permission) to the same exact cloud services that FordPass has in order to perform the features (remote start, for example) we are considering.

The most common way those kinds of things are accomplished is that the manufacturer of products and services that want to leverage Alexa, in order to attract Alexa customers, they meet Amazon's requirements for providing the code necessary to Alexa. In Alexa speak, that code is called an Alexa "skill".

Install Alexa app on your phone. Open it and choose "skills". You will see what I'm talking about immediately. For example "Spotify" skill. If you add the Spotify skill to Alexa, which was written and provided by Spotify, now you can talk to Alexa in order to run Spotify! Make sense?

So if Ford wanted us to be able to, they would add a Ford skill to the Alexa skill library. If they did? Oh how cool that would be. In affect it would be Alexa voice assistant performing Ford Pass functions. You could ask "Alexa, what is my oil life?" She would simply be voicing the exact data that FordPass is displaying.

You could say "Alexa, send me a full vehicle health report". It would be emailed to you.

Alexa, start the truck tomorrow morning at 7:15 am. Again, it would just be Alexa performing the API that FordPass already is using.

(Edit: I continue to blather on about things completely oblivious to what is now obsolete information)

If it's the skill I've seen available it's an old one that doesn't apply to our Gen14 trucks. It looks like Ford dabbled in the Alexa skill trade a few years ago and kinda left it hanging.
I didn't spend much time with it once I found it wasn't what I first thought it was. But that IS what we are wanting!

Yeah I jsut wanted to know if you can tell ALexa to lock your truck or start it. Nothing else. I jsut think it would be nice to start my truck with alexa. I dont care about anythign else really. I figured I would ask you since you have it set up and officially have it.

Seems you are saying the skills available do not work with the new trucks

I couldn't get those skills currently in the library to work. Someone else that used those skills on another vehicle pointed out to me that they were for an older car/truck. Can't remember exactly what it was.
