Given the future updates suggested by Ford, the complexity of the BC equipped F-150's and the relative incompetence/lack of interest by dealers to provision this machine, it would appear every owner needs a Mongoose to fully enjoy the machine. Once you use it the first time it is no big deal to keep the firmware up to date in the future.
Understand something. The dealers do care. At least a good dealer does. They cannot hold techs because they need to feed their families and find work elsewhere. There are no new the vehicles coming in and what do don’t have the earlier sync issues. So they find themselves working on used vehicles more that are not Ford. But at least they are getting full pay. Its no longer a AAA Certified mechanic. Techs will not pay it through themselves.

Also, the techs only get paid a percentage of their normal wages especially warranty repairs. If it does not get repaired or updated, the worse they have it. It’s Fords fault for not properly training the techs on something as screwed up as Sync 4 crap is. Again, the techs are frustrated. They need to feed their families. Every time they try working on your truck and the updates fail, their paycheck is less.
My tech is a great guy and showed him lots of end arounds. But when he sees me walk in, he cringes. He hates my truck if it requires anything to be hooked up to the FDRS.
Ford is to blame. Not the dealers or the techs. They are not teaching the techs anything. They are learning through trial and error. That sux for all of us.

If you want blue cruise you are far away at this point. You have had no updates done. You need IPC, ipma, ccm, cmr, pscm and so on.

I think you’d be best to always do it yourself. That way you aren’t so dependent on dealers. You also have the ability to have the best information in the future if a light comes on or you need help to get an idea of a problem.

I know $500 is a lot of money but in comparison to the time lost using your truck($70k) it’s a drop in the bucket.

I’m not sure if you are making payments on your truck but a monthly payment paid while your truck is being supposedly updatedonly to not be and still neeD updates. So I’m willing to help if you do it .
It is a drop in the bucket when the truck costs 70K+.... but its about the principle of not paying for more if it was promised. Like when sales reps try to sneak something in without you noticing. Might be time to swallow all that principle BS and fork out some more money and bend over.

It’s certainly a fair point. But the flip side is that standing on principle has kept a lot of trucks drydocked in a dealer service bay for a lot of days. At some point, it’s not worth it.

I get its not the techs fault, 100% on Ford. Ford and techs are doing this by trial and error. Except what Ford learns on their trial and errors doesn't get communicated to the tech all the way or at least very slowly.

I hope they figure out this process soon. 50% of why I got excited and eventually bought when the new F150 was announced of the new tech and software feature. 25% needed a truck and the other 25% was more power! Might have to reconsider Ford trucks if they can't figure it out in the future.

Enough my rant and sorry for hikacking this already long technical thread! I'll be joining you guys next week!

If you are someone who loves the new platform and the amazing potential of having a vehicle that you are empowered to keep it up to date yourself, then it doesn't mean as much whether Ford or the dealership gets their processes figured out. Because it doesn't even apply to you.

I know that puts me in a tiny little minority of owners, but it's like getting your cake and eating it too.

In an odd way the OTA fiasco opened up a far different ownership experience for me. I simply had to buy some tools for my toolbox. Something I've been doing for years anyway.

APIM is 864MB for this update.

Both TCU and APIM updates are KonEon and need to see a full shutdown as usual.

APIM gets updated to 22087, rev 415

After successfully updating TCU and APIM a GWM will become available as well.

GWM is at least 248MB for this update but will confirm after it completes.

GWM Is KonEon and need to see a full shutdown as usual.

Hello all, I've been trying to follow most of this thread and others. So my apologies if this issue has already been talked about

Not trying to complain just wanted to bring out my issue to the form to see if anyone else is experienced the same issue

Since I got my truck last August it was running POWER UP 1.4. Early February it went from 1.4 > 1.6> 1.7.1... And then kept getting notifications in the Ford app that there was updates but every time I go to my truck it would say it was back on 1.6 and it has stayed there since.

The dealer did a so-called "blue cruise update".. The documentation I got back from them set eight modules were updated. It looks like I have some feature sets that are above 1.6 the Apple CarPlay in the closter and Blue cruise works just without the hands-free feature

I called the Over-The-Air (OTA) Team, the lady was very lovely and tried to help. But the only thing i got out of that is she stated in their system that my truck shows that it is running 1.7.1 .

With that all being said, looking to go down the mongoose/FDRS road. Dose anyone see me running into issues?

With the lack of support from the oval it's awesome this community is out there!!!

The adventure begins on my 21 PowerBoost Job 1 Platinum. Truck received PowerUp 2.3.0 in February. I am in EAP but waitlisted.

I work for ALLDATA and asked our diagnostics lead if we had a Mongoose before I ordered one. We didn’t but we had a Ford VCM 2 laying around that I was able to borrow. Even better! Updated the firmware and started the process this morning. So far, so good. Running a MacTools maintainer that will hold voltage at 12.9v and above.
