I was particularly interested to see the Oil Pump belt everyone has been making such a fuss about.

I don’t know why but for some reason I was picturing cam drive belts as well but that’s clearly NOT the case.
I’m still not sure what to make of the Oil Pump belt but as long as it lasts 70k, it’s all good.

It CERTAINLY lasted longer than the #6 VALVE!
lol
i was thinking the other day i should buy a FoMoCo one and keep it in my parts bucket at home in case i ever need to change it. supposedly they're reinforced and pretty heavy duty.

While it does suck royal ass that my engine is being dismantled, I don’t really “need” the truck right now so it’s not a major inconvenience at this point. My Ranger 4x4 is running like a top and the Dealership gave me a pretty nice loaner that I’m having fun with. I wasn’t planning to put the 2021 to work until spring anyway.

It’s interesting (for me) to see the inside of my engine and I figured “some” of you might find it as interesting as I do so I posted these photos.

I’m blessed with a GREAT mechanic at the local Ford Dealership and I have 100% faith in his ability to get her back on the road. Plus… going forward I now have a mechanic with an intimate knowledge of my truck which will be comforting if I ever have any problems in the future.

I bought the Primium Warranty with the truck so these issues are FORD'S problem for the next seven years! By then... I'm pretty sure we will have flushed out any gremlins.

I’m just dying to find out what happened and get back to learning my new truck!
Good Luck!
Just curious -- was the engine making any strange noises or anything? For example, some on the 5.0 page complain of a rattle @ 3500 rpm.

mine is going into the dealer, rattle from 3200-4000. It sounds like something plastic is loose like paper blowing in the wind

I don't know man... looking at these pictures, that would be one hell of a job!
Better to buy an ESP and let it be someone else’s problem.

But... I'm NOT a mechanic and I suppose that if I were... I might dig doing that job so...

NOTHING!

Running smooth as silk one second... dead the next.

I was pretty sure I had a clogged fuel filter or something. It was just like that.

I have a 2020 with the 5.0 and only 10,000 miles on it. This makes my sphincter pucker a bit. Good luck.

Turns out it was a shattered valve. "UNIKRNF150" has taken on a whole NEW meaning!
It damaged the rollers & the cam shaft but not the head or below.

Thank God I don't have a business relying on having this truck on the road!

We're waiting to hear if Ford wants it repaired or will be sending a new head. I really don't care either way. I have the Premium Care ESP so it's THEIR problem until 2028!

After eight months of waiting for them to build this truck.. I made "other arrangements" long ago so other than the payments I'm making on a truck I haven't been able to drive in 2022... I'm just finding this all very fascinating to watch.

Of course all my buddies telling me with GREAT JOY... "I told you to get a Toyota"! lol

I'd rather have a broken down 2021 F150 than a Toyota ANY DAY!

I've driven the new Toyotas and they don't hold a candle to the 2021 5.0 F150.
I hope you make them inspect the piston, may have been the kiss of death for the valve and not suffered “eyeball” damage.

don’t get too wound up about it..
I have just under 13k and have not had any issues at all.
But, I don’t beat on mine at all either (not suggesting others do)
no weird engine noises
no oil consumption.

Transmission is weird to me tho, but I don’t know if it’s me or the trans.
This is my first automatic pickup ever.

I can see the #6 hole pretty clearly but you're RIGHT!

There could be damage that's not visible but that's why “God made the Premium Care ESP” and that's why I bought it!

This is costing them a fortune (relatively speaking). They’re DEFINATELY losing money on THIS truck.

I’ve already put 3K on their “loaner” with no end in sight. At ZERO interest… if they don’t have enough incentive to keep my truck on the road for the next 7 years that’s fine... I’ve been conditioned by EIGHT MONTHS and SEVEN “promised build dates” with the patience to feed them all the rope they need to hang themselves.
(ordered on 3/20/21... delivered on 11/30/21)

I JUST WANT MY DAMN TRUCK!

Not a “replacement”.
Not a “new engine”.

THIS truck FIXED!

..and I WILL get what I want.

I wouldn't worry about it.

This is a weird one!

I have YET to see anyone else with this issue.

Just enjoy your F150 5.0, don't be afraid to flog it from time to time and make it do things that other trucks can't do.

HAVE FUN! These trucks are FUN!!

I just want to make it perfectly clear...

I'm not posting these photos as some kind of "warning" to people who bought or are considering buying a 5.0

The 2021 Ford 5.0 is an amazing engine!

A shattered valve is UNHEARD OF and I’m just that lucky guy who got one. So I thought that some of you might find it interesting to see up close what the inside of your 5.0 looks like.

That said… don’t for one second think that Ford Motor Company gives a rats ass about YOU OR your business.

THEY DON’T!

Protect yourself. Get an ESP.

ANYTHING built by man can and will fail at some point. Maybe GM, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan, etc… MIGHT offer you better “customer service” if something like this happens. Af ucking monkey could offer you better customer service than FORD Motor Company! (It took them SIX HOURS to get me a tow truck on their stupid Ford App)

But the others DON’T BUILD F150s!

They build cheap, outdated trucks.

This is WHY “I” bought my truck from a small town dealership where they DO care about you and your business. I could have bought it in the Big City. I work there everyday. But I would just be another number there.

Food for thought.

Man....I'm truly sorry this happened to you. This would make me want to get rid of that vehicle, like it has in the past. I'm on my 27th Ford now and quite honestly, 2 of those have been dependable and problem free. One of those is my wifes 2017 Explorer. As you may have guessed, i trade for something else frequently but the chances of getting another problem free Ford are slim at best. So, we got top of the line ESP for it and are hanging on to it. My 2021 F150 Plat is once again having plenty of unfixed issues and are piling up since the dealer is waiting for fixes/parts from Ford. If i knew the 2022's are having all their electronics working correctly, I'd be ordering a new one and trade it with only 5000 miles on it. I hate problems with new vehicles. They take the fun right out of it.

I agree but I REALLY loved this truck while I had it. It was exactly what I wanted and more. Everything with this truck worked and fit perfectly, far beyond any of my expectations until this happened and a "shattered valve" is just a freak problem. Plus, if I replace it with something else I’ll never be able to get the 0% loan.

I shopped around, test driving all the different trucks in the summer of 2020. I went into the Ford dealer in November of 2020 ready to drive home in a new 2021 RCSB F150 but they didn’t have anything close to what I was looking for.
So I spent 4 months scouring the nation for this truck and finally gave up last March and ordered it. Back then, a fully loaded RCSB was unheard of. Now they seem to be gaining in popularity.

No… I’ll be sticking with this truck and if it continues to have problems, I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

I have 7 years or 70K miles to flush out any issues.
